"On the March", illustrated for @ancientwarfare , issue 108 (out now!).
A contubernium of Roman soldiers takes a break from the harsh conditions of a march in the East in the first century AD.
This illustration was weirdly personal for me, having trekked through a hostile, burning desert with an unreasonably heavy ruck myself. I tried to channel as much of that misery into the piece as I could and hopefully it came through.
