ECG from NYT story on AI saving a pt. A highly abnormal ECG. Fragmented wide QRS and first degree av block likely infranodal. Any cardiologist should be able to look at that ECG and predict serious cardiomyopathy. YOU DON’T NEED AI for this

I’ve debated whether to weigh in on the whole-body scan discourse, and honestly, I think this is a no-win situation for physicians. We can explain concerns about false positives, overdiagnosis, unnecessary procedures, anxiety, and downstream costs. Some people will find that useful. Others have already decided they want the information regardless of the tradeoffs. People are free to spend their money however they choose. If you get the scan and it finds something, we’ll be here to help you interpret it and navigate the consequences. But once we’ve explained the risks, continuing to argue about it feels less like medicine and more like shouting into the void.

I strongly believe that the discourse around AI needs to be revisited. The perspective that we need to adapt to the technology that we created to make our lives easier doesn't sit well with me. It should be the other way around (1)
The number of tech bros who make big assertions about medicine while failing to define all the relevant assumptions and then also failing at simple conditional probabilities while also ripping on the stupidity of physicians is kind of astounding

Finally, higher education institutions must and should be held accountable for the employment (yes, employment, not employability) of their graduates, and consolidating efforts with the job markets to align curricula with the emerging needs of the current and future workforce (4)
