Serbia 🇷🇸 is moving forward with plans to establish a joint drone production facility in partnership with Elbit Systems, Israel's 🇮🇱 leading defence company. The factory, reportedly structured as a majority-owned (51%) Israeli 🇮🇱 stake alongside Serbia's 🇷🇸 state-owned SDPR, will focus on producing both short-range rotary-wing UAVs capable of carrying heavier payloads and more advanced long-range platforms with higher operational ceilings and extended autonomy. The project represents a significant leap in Serbia's 🇷🇸 domestic defence-industrial capabilities, particularly in terms of technology transfer and engineering integration.
The facility is expected to be located in the industrial zone of Šimanovci, near Belgrade, with Serbian 🇷🇸 engineers, including personnel linked to UTVA, reportedly involved in development and assembly. The long-range system under discussion is described by sources as more advanced than the domestically produced Pegasus UAV, particularly in altitude performance and mission endurance.
Dunav Intel had already anticipated such a development in late 2025, pointing to the sustained and continuous flow of medium- to high-caliber munitions from Belgrade toward Beersheba–Nevatim air base as a structural indicator of deepening defence-industrial alignment. The opening of a drone factory with Israel therefore appears not as an isolated initiative, but as the institutional consolidation of an already expanding military-technical partnership.

Despite the recent acquisition of 2 Airbus C295MWs, possible options indicate:
• Additional C295s (🇪🇸🇩🇪🇫🇷)
• Airbus A400M (🇪🇸🇩🇪🇫🇷)
• Embraer KC-390 (🇧🇷)
• Y-9/Y-20 (🇨🇳)
The logic: greater payload and range, independent transport of heavy military equipment, support for Serbia's 🇷🇸 expanding arms exports, reducing reliance on foreign Il-76, C-17 or An-124 charters as Dunav Intel extensively reported during the past year.
The real question may not be financing, but personnel capacity and long-term sustainability.
