Two days ago, RSF OWA drones struck Qadaref 🇸🇩, Khashm el-Girba and Setit Dam, reportedly from Ethiopia 🇪🇹. Recovered wreckage resembles UAE-origin 🇦🇪 drones designated TMID-0014 by OSMP. TDF fighters also recovered the same drones, confirming a possible Ethiopian launch point.
Egypt now possesses a completely indigenous layered air defense capability against drones and some subsonic targets extending out to 100 kilometers using the (yet to be revealed) FL2050, 50Km max interception range for smaller drones and up to 10Km for all other systems.
At the Alamein Air Show, it became apparent that this was a national project to boost Egypt’s indigenous air defense capabilities, with the private sector making an impressive entire into the C-UAS realm with interceptors offered by at least 4 private sector companies.
Most recently, the Egyptian army unveiled Egypt’s first indigenous High Energy Laser (HEL) demonstrating the surprising maturity of R&D in the anti drone and asymmetric air defense realm in a short period of time and with relatively small investment.
Efforts then shifted to developing hard-kill interception solutions, AOI began developing a series of miltipurpose turrets relying on 23mm anti-air radar guided “AI” assisted guns, EO and laser guided rockets and finally interceptor drones, dubbed “Wedjat” and “Udjat”.
Egypt took this soft-kill approach a step further by developing a High-Power Electromagnetic system (HPEM) alongside a series of more sophisticated Electronic warfare systems.
Among the earliest advertised Egyptian anti drone products was a series of standalone jammers and sensors, developed between 2018 and 2021, Egypt proceeded to integrate these sensors on APCs, MRAPs and other vehicles as the “Hares” series.

It’s the second anniversary of Director Hassan Rashad’s appointment by President Sisi as the Director of the General Intelligence Service (GIS) on October 16th 2024, succeeding his longtime adviser Abbas Kamel. Director Hassan Rashad had been a career intelligence officer for ~34 years ever since he joined the GIS in the early 1990s, and is a graduate of the Military Technical College.
Egypt unveils first iteration of locally developed High Energy Laser for air defense applications dubbed “EGY-HEL-01”.
Extensive FPV and interceptor usage was also documented at the second field army live fire drill.
An EAF Tucano was displayed at EIAS fitted with a RTX Collins EO/IR sensor, enabling ISR and precision targeting. All modifications were done in Egypt by Ariegsa Manufacturing.
