Last night in Austin, a horrific tragedy occurred on West 6th at Buford’s, leaving 3 dead and 14 hospitalized.
It’s easy to focus on metrics, tokens, and network growth. But moments like this remind us what connectivity is really about.
A few doors down from one of our deployed venues, we saw a sharp uptick in WiFi calling. In times of chaos, people reach for their phones — to call family, to check on friends, to say “I’m safe,” or “I need help.”
There are multiple networks broadcasting along that street. Whether it was @XNET_Mobile , @helium , or any other provider — what matters is that connectivity was there.
Even if cellular would have worked, redundancy matters. Backup matters. Reliability matters.
DePIN isn’t just infrastructure. It’s resilience. It’s community. It’s making sure communication works when people need it most.
My thoughts and prayers are with every family and friend affected by this senseless act of violence.
I aspire for a future which brings people closer, responding faster, and standing stronger when our communities need them most. DePIN is building this future.
