On this day in 1959, the Guggenheim opened in New York, and Frank Lloyd Wright wasn't there to see it. He'd died six months earlier. Beforehand, 21 artists signed a letter protesting their work hanging on his spiral ramp. Visitors didn't care: 600 an hour poured in. #OnThisDay

See the brightest star, Sirius, in your morning sky! ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŒ Before daybreak, look for #Sirius. Itโ€™s so bright that you can see it from a light-polluted city. Itโ€™s rising in the middle of the night and best seen by dawn. buff.ly/sif9VQE ๐Ÿ“ธ EarthSky.org.

If Tim Burton had a favorite cephalopod, it might be this one. Meet the striped pyjama squid! One of the few known poisonous cephalopods, this critter can change color & secrete slime to intimidate foes. It spends its days nestled beneath the sand, hunting for prey by night.

๐Ÿ“ก Are galaxy clusters producing more fast radio bursts? Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are powerful flashes of radio waves that last just milliseconds. Astronomers using data from the CHIME telescope have found evidence that these mysterious signals occur more frequently toward galaxy clusters. Are the clusters home to more FRB sources, or could gravitational lensing be magnifying signals from galaxies far beyond them? Join SETI Institute astronomer Dr. Lauren Sgro and lead author Dr. Mawson W. Sammons for the next #SETILive as they investigate this cosmic mystery! ๐Ÿ“… Thursday, October 22 ๐Ÿ•™ 10:00 am Pacific ๐Ÿ”ด Watch live: youtube.com/live/xk66kZ3R77k #FastRadioBursts #Astronomy #GalaxyClusters #SETIInstitute

In one such section, a brittle lateritic block was taken from the riverbed. The block, measuring approximately 1.5 m in length, 60 cm in width, and weighing nearly 45 kg, contained a complex network of interconnected tunnels and galleries. The innermost, narrower tunnels were inhabited exclusively by small fishes, notably species of ๐‘‡๐‘Ž๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘Ž and the new species of ๐‘†๐‘๐‘–๐‘›๐‘–๐‘๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘ข๐‘ , herein described. This new species, described herein, underscores the underestimated diversity within ๐‘†๐‘๐‘–๐‘›๐‘–๐‘๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘ข๐‘ , likely due to its habitat specificity and rarity in ichthyological collections, highlighting the importance of exploring unusual microhabitats in revealing hidden components of Neotropical fish diversity.
