โIt is an honour and privilege for Rwanda to be chosen as a destination in the Formula One calendar. What brought us together is a shared conviction that Africa has the potential to elevate the quality of motorsports as a global and elite discipline.
Integrating African markets with global sports franchises and competitions offers transformative opportunities. Yet, if we have to be honest with ourselves, this cross-border connection has existed for a long time, just not in Africaโs favour.
The message for all of us is simple: sports is a great equalizer, but we have to be intentional about delivering this promise. Rwanda is happy and excited to be part of a journey that will change how Africa is perceived in the world of sports. We want to contribute, not just participate, and this new chapter in motorsports starts today" President Kagame | Formula 1 African Grand Prix Announcement

Africa wanted Formula 1. Several countries stepped forward. But the story has taken us to Rwanda!
South Africa had its historic Kyalami circuit. Morocco had ambitions of bringing F1 back. Nigeria also expressed interest. And Rwanda entered the race with a bold vision.
In December 2024, Rwanda officially announced its bid. Now, on 13 October 2026, Formula 1 has confirmed a 10-year agreement to bring the African Grand Prix to Bugesera in the early 2030s.
Think about it: a country that announced its ambition less than two years ago has secured a historic opportunity to bring the world's biggest motorsport championship back to Africa for the first time since 1993.
This is a story of vision, preparation and persistence.
And as FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem reminded us, it is not called Rwandan F1. It is called the African Grand Prix.
Rwanda will host it. Africa will share the moment.
Fellow Africans, this is a moment to celebrate!
