DYK? There were nearly 18,000 deer/vehicle crashes last year, and nearly 6,000 of those took place in October and November. Deer are especially dangerous for motorcyclists – there is about a 37% chance that a motorcycle/deer crash will result in a fatality or serious injury.

An intersection in Polk County saw a 100% reduction in serious injury crashes after an off-set right turn lane was installed. Crews added an off-set right turn lane on US 8, reducing the potential for crashes at the US 8 and WIS 46 North intersection near Balsam Lake.

In the five years before the project was completed, there were two serious injury crashes. In the five years after the turn lane was installed, there were no serious injury crashes. This is another example of safety improvement through engineering. #SafetySuccess
