Not quite. The data shows a trade-off, but it doesn’t yet prove the 1.5% tax caused all of the volume decline. At the moment we’re seeing roughly 63% more tax collected than the 0.5% counterfactual, while taxable volume is about 49% below the pre-change benchmark. But the 67% breakeven point only tells us when the higher tax stops producing more burn, it does not tell us whether the wider economic cost to trading, liquidity and chain usage is worth it. That’s exactly why I’m running the test for six months. If the extra burn comes at the cost of materially weaker long-term activity, then shaving some time off the burn schedule would be a poor trade. The aim today is just to measure that rather than assume either side is right.
