What do you think boys? Pretty easy to get a well to TD to drop the nuke in harsh conditions? Scariest environment imaginable….

Wait let me get this straight. Wakefield is building a 15MWh battery so that two schools can have backup heat for heat pumps in the winter in a microgrid. How do the numbers work out for this being remotely affordable
Batteries can serve double-duty, shoring up the grid and providing backup to buildings when the power goes out. This project shows how: ow.ly/W7lN50TFysX

“Every new molecule of CO2 we add to the atmosphere has less of a warming effect than the previous one. Warming will diminish as emissions increase—the only question is at what rate.”

Anyone who has passed a high school physics course understands Newton's 3rd Law of motion, which states that for every action, there will be an equal and opposite reaction.
This is applicable to the governing dynamics of Earth's atmosphere too.
Any area of “unusual” (relative to an arbitrary climatic average) warmth is going to be balanced by an area of “unusual” cold. The 2-meter air temperature anomaly (i.e., departure from average) map for the last five days below conveys this quite well. The Upper Plains and Canadian Prairies have been averaging generally some 6-12°F below average, while the Great Lakes, Ontario, Quebec and New England have been 6-12°F above the 1991-2020 average.
The entire map area anomaly? 0.5°F. Time for a vision test. If the entire map were colored according to that value, what color would it be? No takes? White. While slightly above average, yes, it's not at all significant. As I said, nature seeks a local equilibrium point (albeit it is never quite achieved; if this world were in equilibrium, nothing would ever happen).
But, did you know that western North America is quite cool relative to average of late? No. Why? Because the news media would rather fixate on the heatwave in the eastern U.S. and southeastern Canada to spread fear over typical summer weather. That's essentially what it boils down to.

It's a tad concerning to learn (again) how few IPCC scientists seem familiar with the contents of the IPCC Assessment Reports.
“Almost 80% of the respondents, all from the authoritative Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), foresee at least 2.5C of global heating above preindustrial levels, while almost half anticipate at least 3C.” theguardian.com/environment/…
This is bad not good. Batteries are a cost to using power. They generate no power. They are a symptom of increasing system costs making all of us poorer due to a green obsession.
Majority want backup power because greens have wrecked the grid into unreliability.

The radical green movement was always foremost about socialism and subjugation of the individual
Individualism is over.
It's time to band together and work out common sense solutions to the climate crisis and our broken democracy - before it's too late.

Climate change is real. There is ample reason to address it. But the insistence that human extinction looms and that Exxon is responsible for every extreme weather event has driven rising polarization, anxiety, and fatalism, not effective action to address the problem.

In my new essay for New Atlantis, I write about how the climate discourse became increasingly detached from the actual climate science. Popular understanding of the relationship between climate change, extreme weather, and natural disasters is basically wrong. 🧵

First it was the “permanent megadrought.” Now, the experts claim “supercharged” atmospheric rivers and floods are California's “new normal.” Talk about a flip flop in narrative.
Is climate change fueling the recent atmospheric river events bombarding California? Short answer: NO. Long answer? Check out my new blog article here: chrismartzweather.com/2024/0…

Burning wood pellets emits more CO2 than coal for every unit of electricity produced. Instead of embracing the shale gas bonanza beneath our feet, we import 7m tons of timber from primary forests, call it renewable, and add £6bn to energy bills. Madness.

Offshore wind looks promising on paper. But in reality, it rarely delivers to its maximum designed capacity, is especially unreliable, requires significant maintenance, and is much more costly than advertised.

a deep dive on how one of the poorest, most exploited countries on Earth can LOWER their carbon footprint despite the fact that its 95 million people use essentially zero oil, natural gas, or coal.
I have no doubt that improving "land use" emissions (the bulk of DRC's emissions) would be consistent with improved living standards, as it would mean the people of the DRC are actually becoming richer and using more of all forms of energy. The DRC has significant oil, gas, hydro, and solar resource potential.
DRC is of course the source of ~70% of the cobalt demanded by The Lucky 1 Billion of Us + those who have moved up the economic s-curve in the Rest of the World. "Cobalt Red" is a must-read book on what goes into "mining" that cobalt.
In all seriousness, it's actually a helpful article with good details on the DRC. It's just hardly obvious that the DRC of all places needs a "Paris aligned pledge" to lower THEIR emissions.

ALT Text: DRC. Democratic Republic of the Congo was the 12th largest emitter of greenhouse gases in 2018. It is home to around 60% of the Congo Basin rainforest and deforestation produced 92% of its emissions. Only around one-fifth of the DRC population has access to electricity, and the nation uses hardly any fossil fuels. Background image: outline of the DRC.
