ALT Significant Winter Storm There is increasing confidence in the development of a large winter storm that is likely to produce a swath of heavy snow and treacherous ice from the Great Plains starting Friday and continuing to the East Coast through the upcoming weekend. Heavy Snow North of the storm track, periods of heavy snow are expected to cause numerous travel headaches from the Southern Plains on east to the Mid-Atlantic. Snow covered roads and reduced visibilities are among the potential hazards. Dangerous Ice Along and just south of the storm track, an icy wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet is probable. Hazardous travel conditions are likely, including the potential for power outages and tree damage.
