Flu jab today. Had to go private as work scheme has been delayed. Flu cases are growing very quickly already. Go early.
My company flu vaccine has been delayed until later this year. I know early flu cases are rising so I’ve opted for a private jab just so I can get it much sooner.

October 8th. It’s my birthday. I am officially another year older. 53 not out - a perfectly respectable individual batting score at cricket. Nothing flashy, a couple of streaky boundaries and at least one very close LBW that the umpire somehow missed. Run rate has slowed, the middle order is creaking and I’m still refusing to declare. Counting my blessings that I’m not yet back in the pavilion.

Made a cracking tomato and lentil soup for tea. Daughter suggested treacle pud and Ambrosia custard for duff like her grandad used to do. Proper tea.

All my years in government communications, I don’t understand the “hope again” message. Have we had hope before? Is it a sarcastic nod to the Obama campaign? Promising hope is a big ask, but again? Has an air of perpetual disappointment about it.
