The reason for this loss is simple: Gen Z and Millennials voted overwhelmingly for Democrats. Meaning, the Left radicalized many of your children right under your noses for decades. That’s a tough truth to accept. Hence the attraction to bizarre explanations: The Groypers did it! The Tucker bros! Iran! No. It is the fault of at least two generations of parents who abandoned the home spiritually. Moms sought fulfillment in careers or online. Dads abdicated leaders and ignored the directive of Deuteronomy 6 to teach their children the ways of the Lord and opted to subcontract it to the state or private schools that, even if they didn’t radicalize them, produced spiritually vapid kids. In 1 Samuel we find the story of Eli who did this exact thing. His sons had become wicked. Guess who the Lord called on the carpet? The youth pastor? The public or private school teacher? G’ma? Mom? No. The Lord brought judgment upon Eli because he was charged with the spiritual and intellectual training of his children and he neglected it: “And I declare to him that I am about to judge his house forever for the iniquity that he knew, because his sons made themselves vile, and he did not restrain them.” This is the hard truth of scripture that, so far, not one of those who would offer you his profound midterm analysis has said. It’s the biblical answer to what we are seeing happening in this country. All else is mere commentary. Until we as a people own it, repent of it, and begin to do the hard work of parenting (or grandparenting as the case may be), nothing will change. On the contrary, it will accelerate.
MIDTERMS & JUKE BOX HEROES🧵 1/3 There’s a wonderfully instructive scene in the 1983 film The Right Stuff, a movie which chronicles the early days of the space program: The men chosen to be America’s first astronauts are being wined and dined at a huge event in Houston at the newly opened Astrodome. Vice President LBJ sings their praises; beautiful women flirt with them; corporate America gives them Corvettes, luxury watches, and lucrative endorsements; and they are hailed as heroes. They bask in the glory knowing they’ve done nothing to deserve it. The scene switches to the California desert. Two men stand in a desolate landscape staring into a hangar. Test pilot Chuck Yeager and engineer Jack Ridley inspect the new Lockheed F-104 Starfighter, a plane created to push the very limits of space and overtake the Russians. “Shall we see what she can do?” asks Yeager. The scene switches back to Houston and the smug astronauts. Although the best pilot, Yeager isn’t among them because the powers that be didn’t think he fit the All-American profile they wanted: handsome, college educated, and a smooth political operator. The astronauts shake hands, wave to the crowd, and the lights of the Astrodome dim as they seat themselves to watch burlesque dancer Sally Rand ascend the stage and begin her ostrich feather fan dance for them. The scene switches again. Yeager taxis down the runway, pulling the canopy of the F-104 down as he goes. There are no crowds to praise him, no glory to be won beyond the self-satisfaction that he is fulfilling the mission to which he has been assigned: To put the United States ahead of the Russians. Back to the Astronauts. The sexy Sally Rand dances to Debussy’s Clair de Lune, each man feeling she’s dancing just for him. Yeager rockets for the very edge of space with the soft elegance of Clair de Lune now serving as the background music for the drama in Houston and the one shaping up in the California desert. This subtlety hints at Yeager’s work in obscurity because it fits the astronauts’ celebratory event, not his bat out of Hell mission. Something goes wrong. Yeager can see space; almost touch it. But the engines stall. The plane begins a death spiral. He fights for control as he plummets. The astronauts, 1,500 miles away, are blissfully unaware. Ridley sees an explosion on the desert horizon and a plume of black smoke. As he races to the crash site, the driver says: “Is that a man?” To which Ridley replies: “Yeah, you’re damn right it is!” Yeager is burned horribly, but he nonetheless stands, his parachute and the burning husk of the F-104 behind him. What novelist Tom Wolfe was doing — and the filmmakers after him — was juxtaposing the real work of beating the Russians vs the glamour sold to the public: One, but for rare moments, goes unsung and unnoticed. It involves great personal courage, nightmarish risks, and the condescension of those who have no idea what Yeager does. The other is the lights of Tinseltown, empty speeches, backslapping politicians, endless photo ops, and the reassurance that they really are heroes saving the world. This brilliant contrast mirrors something I’ve been mulling for a long time: real cultural engagement and impact vs illusory cultural engagement and impact. I’m referring to social media. I think many conservatives mistake their likes and retweets for actually moving the needle. Moving as I do in the world of conservative “influencers” — the very term is ironic given what I’m saying — I try to push them to get off their phones and engage the world. In part I do it for their own mental health. I can see how it hypes them or keeps them in a constant state of anxiety. I can also see them getting dopamine rushes when a tweet gets a lot of attention or they receive praise. I see their inability to read a real book from beginning to end — not just listen to one — or have a sustained conversation that doesn’t involve reaching for their phones multiple times….

**I NEED YOUR HELP** You like the story of the Red Baron Pizza Guy? This one, about corporate thieves, is much better. My 84-year-old mother now lives with us. Almost TWO YEARS AGO, she lived briefly at Monark Grove Senior Living in Birmingham, AL. which is owned by the hucksters below. My father died in 2006, and mom lives on a $2,000 a month survivor’s benefit US Army pension. She paid Monark up front for what was to be several weeks stay while I was abroad and Lauri was visiting family. Mom suffered a stroke while there and had to be hospitalized. According to the language of their contract, she was to be refunded about $8,000. They agreed this was correct and promised to do so. Weeks and months rolled by. Will Devening, the manager, continually promised the proverbial check was in the mail. Still, nothing appeared. After months of delays, more promises, and obfuscation, they finally sent half. Clearly the strategy was to delay, make me lose interest, and steal her money. They underestimate me. Determined they would not keep 1¢ of my mother’s money, I got lawyers involved. They gave them until Oct 29th to pay or we’d litigate it. Nothing but more efforts to delay. Bear in mind, my mom lives off of her meager savings and what I provide. I’ve begun to wonder: If they will steal my mom’s money, how many others are they doing this to? I doubt her case is an anomaly. If you know anyone who has had such dealings with them, DM me. My father was career army, fought in two wars, earned a Bronze Star and Purple Heart, and saw to it that my mother would received a benefit from his hard earned pension. Now these people would steal it. But the amount isn’t the point. We’d be fine letting a lawyer keep it all. The point is that the Kiriluk family, owners of Kirco who owns Monark Grove shall not be allowed to keep it. This is a story of a corporation defrauding a US Army widow of monies they know they owe her. I need you to make them famous for the stress they have put her through with their dishonest dealings. And I suspect her case is the one roach you see while another thousand hide in the walls. Do your thing.
KIRCO’s Chairman Alan Kiriluk and President/CEO Matt Kiriluk have been recognized by @dbusiness as Detroit 500 Top Business Leaders for the fifth consecutive year! kirco.com/kirco-chairman-ala…

CONSERVATIVE VS “CONSERVATIVE”:🧵 When I posted this, I was mindful of a warning from scripture: “…false prophets will arise … to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.” (Matthew 24:14) There has been a deliberate effort to penetrate conservative circles and fracture them. Here’s how it’s done: 1. Appear to abandon your lifelong commitment to the Left/Democrats. You say you’ve been “red-pilled.” 2. You earn the trust of conservatives on a variety of issues dear to them by attacking your former lefty colleagues. 3. Conservatives, desperate for heroes, immediately platform you as an oracle of truth. That you were a lifelong leftist (and often an atheist) should make the faithful wary, but those urging caution are shouted down. Your political (not spiritual, mind you) “conversion” is all that matters. 4. Now you establish a cult of your personality. Once this is done, your followers have unwittingly shifted from the fixed point of their principles to you. It’s now easy to lead them, by degrees, to embrace anything. Moreover, they become the army who insulate you from any meaningful critique. They embody the hate that you once kept hidden, but is now in the open. 5. Now comes the coup de grâce: you turn your focus, your hate, on conservatives themselves. Your followers — by now all sail, no anchor — eagerly follow you in doing it. The fracture of the right has begun. You accuse your critics of ideological “gatekeeping” when you have, in fact, sought to make yourself the ultimate gatekeeper. Game over. This is a very old tactic predating Marxists, but revived by them. The Bolsheviks were geniuses in their use of it, and the Chinese have taken it to another level. If you’ll permit me to say so, I was the first to warn you that Tim Keller was promoting Marxism; Russell Moore is a self-serving snake; Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson are not your friends; Andrew Tate is a Muslim pig out to lure young men to that evil ideology; and Jordan Peterson Peterson, while very helpful in some respects, was not to be trusted as a Bible teacher. I took sharp criticism in every case, and in every case I was proved right. So much so, that conservative personalities now act like they knew it all along! They didn’t. Now I am warning you of a new threat. Some of you are following people who don’t share your most basic assumptions about God and all that flows from belief in Him. A few have gone further: they have made champions of unbelieving charlatans and gone full attack mode against the faithful. How could they do it? It’s like aligning yourself with Richard Dawkins in toto because he expressed some minor misgivings about the decline of Christianity. It’s foolish. But it’s what many have done. My advice, wholly biblical, is this: Make the Word of God the standard against which you measure everything. Don’t go all-in on anyone but Jesus. Test everything against scripture. I, for example, voted for Trump (three times), I’ve aggressively defended him, and I’ve been a guest at Mar-a-Lago twice, but when he platformed an unrepentant pro-abortion porn star at the RNC, I sharply criticized him. My support of Trump, of anyone, extends no further than my conscience. Scripture has given us models. In Galatians 2, Paul publicly confronts Peter when the latter’s actions served to lead the young in faith astray. If Peter wasn’t above it, I dare say no one else is. Is it gatekeeping? You’re damn right. People say that as if it’s a bad thing. Jesus is the strictest of gatekeepers. When you’re defined only by what you’re against, you inevitably forget what you’re for. And there are several personalities on this platform who hate you and your God, but have a predatory instinct for leveraging what you passionately oppose for their own wicked ends. “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.” ~Col 2: 8
I keep saying this and it bears repeating: Many conservatives, often Christians, are aligning themselves with people on this platform who are merely anti-woke. Being against the sexual mutilation of children or Islam or open borders is setting the bar awfully low for what constitutes a conservative. Real conservatism is rooted in a Judeo-Christian worldview. It’s rooted in the Decalogue. I want the anti-woke to join us in winning elections. But I don’t want them diluting the values of the Right. Be discerning. Be wise. And don’t hitch your ideological wagon to just any yahoo on here. Some of them are wolves in sheep’s clothing out to deceive you.

Conservatives, religious organizations, energy producers, and other Americans disfavored by Democrats were targeted with account closures and credit denials. @POTUS and @USOCC are confronting these abuses and putting an end to the weaponization of our financial system.
The OCC’s supervisory review of debanking activities at the nine largest national banks it supervises found that these banks had policies that required, encouraged, or otherwise influenced banks to deny or limit access to financial services to Americans because of their political or religious beliefs or affiliations or their lawful business activities. Read about the OCC’s findings and its efforts to guarantee fair banking for all Americans. occ.gov/FairBanking

What if everything you thought you knew about the days of creation was wrong? This may be the most important lecture Professor John Lennox has ever given. Few men are better equipped to tackle these questions. A brilliant scientist with an extraordinary understanding of Scripture, Lennox challenges us to rethink how we read the opening chapters of the Bible.

I’m late to this discussion. On occasion, I have very much appreciated @JonahDispatch’s commentary, but throughout this exchange his tone is elitist condescension instead of sound reasoning. Here @SteveDeaceShow says Hinduism is antithetical to our founding principles, and Goldberg’s response is to cite the performance of Indian students in our schools. It’s like saying, “Well, your hair looks funny.” It’s a non sequitur. That Hindu students (Asian students in general, actually) often do well in our institutions in no way disproves @SteveDeaceShow’s point. Hinduism — and Islam and Buddhism — are utterly antithetical to our founding principles. Indeed, they contradict them. I’m shocked any educated person would think otherwise. Do better.
You people should be ashamed of yourselves. Point to a social indicator where Indian-Americans under-perform? This anti-Indian bs is all being marshaled against them as if Indian-Americans drag America down, but the complaint is also that they outperform the average American. Which is it? If Hinduism is so awful, why do its practitioners do better than average in school and business and are under represented in terms of crime, divorce, out of wedlock birth, etc? Pick a lane. This country was founded upon theological diversity and moral consensus. Indian-Americans are exemplars of that ideal. This blather about the incompatibility of Hinduism is just pretextual boob bait for bigots.

When did @JonahDispatch become David French 2.0? There’s a real discussion to be had here on the question of America’s Christian roots, but you can’t have it when the tone is smirking elitism. Let’s try anyway: Was the United States founded as a Christian country? To read Goldberg here, it was founded on “theological diversity,” a concept he takes from twilight Western civilization and grafts onto 18th century thought, an idea alien to that time. Jonah wrote for National Review. I can well imagine another contributor to National Review, the late eminent American historian Forrest McDonald (who guided my graduate thesis) thundering a contemptuous verdict on such thinking. He would say Jonah is reading the past through a contemporary lens. Diversity, as it is currently defined, had no place in their thinking. No one saw it as a source of cultural strength (and, historically speaking, diversity has never made any nation great). It finds no place in early American slogans nor in our founding documents. Diversity was precisely what they were trying to overcome. The right word is tolerance. Of Christian and European descent to a man, the Founders weren’t thinking in terms of creating a touchy-feely country built on “theological diversity.” They were thinking of the intolerance of Christians toward other Christians. They knew well the horrors of The Peasant Rebellion, the Thirty Years War, Bloody Mary, and so on. Muslims, Buddhists, and Hindus didn’t enter into it. They were thinking of an Elizabethan-style arrangement where the state was a noncombatant in theological disputes. Let’s return to our original question: Was the United States founded as Christian country? Short answer: no. I get uncomfortable when I see the David Bartons and, dare I say it, the Charlie Kirks arguing otherwise. That this is so is obvious. Had that been their intention, they would have codified it. It would be embedded in our Constitution. It isn’t. Moreover, America’s founding was deeply influenced by both the English and French Enlightenments. The English Enlightenment was profoundly Christian; the French Enlightenment was decidedly atheistic. One gave us Christians like Washington and Adams and the other gave us Jefferson and Payne. Fortunately, the influence of the English version on our development was greater. Let’s unpack the nuances of this. Militant secularists have long interpreted the above as a proof that the United States was meant to be irreligious bordering on atheistic. That’s nonsense. And Goldberg seems to think the authors of our Constitution were inspired by a mixture of Zen Buddhist bullshit or Hinduism’s 33 crore gods or the wicked Quran in addition to some vague Christian ideals. This, too, is nonsense. Just as Christianity gave rise to democracy, capitalism, science, and the West in general, it also gave rise to the United States. And yet, America was not founded as a Christian state. That said, @megbasham was right to say that it was founded by a “99%” Christian people. The distinction is important. The authors of the Constitution were self-consciously creating a new nation that was inspired by uniquely Christian ideals, but there would be no religious tests. Common ground would be found in what all Christians saw as self-evidential truths: human dignity and rights flowing from a gracious God. A final word on where this started: the influx of Indians (i.e., Hindus) and Goldberg’s faux outrage that @SteveDeaceShow saw it as culturally counterproductive. As I pointed out in an interview with John Stossel, the idea that human equality is “self-evident” is incoherent outside of a Christian context. Indian scholar Vishal Mangalwadi points out that Hinduism is predicated on human inequality. @SteveDeaceShow’s point stands. I conclude with this: while I understand why they didn’t, I wish the Founders had created a broad religious test for citizenship. That they didn’t may be our undoing.
Megan, sorry for the delayed response. Just bothered to look. I think this response of yours is embarrassingly insipid. Sorry. First, as many have noted, you seem to know nothing about Jefferson’s writings on this, or Washington’s Letter to the Hebrew Congregation in Newport, or the debates around the establishment clause, the meaning of the Declaration, not to mention the role of deism and similar ideas. You also seem to think “they were 99% Christian” is some kind of novel insight and silver bullet argument. Disagreements between Christian denominations were quite meaningful to the Founders at the time, and to American culture generally. There were these people called “the Puritans” who, in no small part because these disagreements, fled England for America. It’s true that states could have established churches, but that practice evaporated very early in the new republic, in part because of this preference for theological diversity (if you prefer “theological pluralism” that’s fine with me). Indeed Madison and others argued that theological competition was actually good. But the really annoying thing about your response is that you are buying into the idea that the low brow rank bigotry that started this conversation can be salvaged with your shallow historical and theological musings. You are coming to the rescue of a mob of bigots, and you’re carrying a nerf bat into the fight.
