And hottest day in Cardiff on record at 35.9°c beating the previous record of 34.0°c from August 1990. Also claiming the hottest UK night on record leading into this hottest day at 23.5°c. Worth a mention in itself in addition to the wider reference to Welsh records here.
The number of obs stations in France compared to here in the UK🫣 and these are just those noted to have broken records…

40C now possible this week .. this would be 4.4C above the current UK June temperature record... a truly astounding event

Both the ARPEGE & UKV models continue to suggest 40-41°C being reached on Wednesday & Thursday.
The all time June temperature record is likely to be beaten.. there’s a chance the all time temperature record for the UK will be beaten too, in June.
I’m lost for words.

More northern lights in Eastleigh, Hants tonight Monday 19/1. Nice surprise on what is the most depressing day of the year 🎉 #northernlights
Coldest night since setting up my weather station in August 2022, -7.0°c beating -6.6°c from 19 Jan last year. Appears it was down to below -10°c locally east of Winchester towards New Alresford and the South Downs etc. Likely coldest night down south for a number of years.🥶
Just before 5pm over the Bristol Channel today from The Knap in Barry, South Wales. Possible funnel cloud (taken by my dad)
Holy shit! Largest since the Japan quake and tsunami in 2011…
US Tsunami Warning Center just issued an update saying the earthquake near Russia was an 8.7 not an 8.0 and that "TSUNAMI WAVES REACHING MORE THAN 3 METERS ABOVE THE TIDE LEVEL ARE POSSIBLE ALONG SOME COASTS OF NORTHWESTERN HAWAIIAN ISLANDS... AND RUSSIA." But USGS is still saying it was an 8.0 so I don't know if the 8.7 is a mistake.
