Chrissy, I appreciate you reaching out about this poor horse, Slow Decision. If you looked deep into the aftercare space, you’d be hard pressed to find an owner who has done more for aftercare than I have. That’s why this one really hurts. I will take some accountability because I bred Slow Decision in 2018. After two starts, he was claimed from me in 2022. Now, nearly four years and almost 40 starts later, this horse is in Puerto Rico and needs funds just to survive. It’s sad. It’s cruel. And it’s proof the system is broken. Last November, the NTA, Pat Cummings, and I presented a detailed funding model to incoming Jockey Club Chairman Everett Dobson and President Jim Gagliano. The plan that would have generated $15-20 million in new aftercare funding annually. The proposal included:     •    A modest increase in registration fees (collected by The Jockey Club)     •    A small buyer/seller tax at public sales     •    An aftercare fee tied to breeding a mare     •    A modest per-start fee for all races with prize money over $10,000     •    A 1-stud-fee contribution from stallions bred over 75 times per year We asked The Jockey Club to partner with us. They not only passed on partnership, they didn’t even share the details with their own Board of Stewards. So frustrating and disappointing!!!!! Maybe if enough of us call them, and their Stewards, they will reconsider. Meanwhile, they’re busy funding HISA while that same bloated budget and bureaucracy continue which continues to bleed this industry dry. Years of doing almost nothing  have led to this embarrassing and epic failure. Please have the Caribbean Aftercare representatives tell me exactly what they need from me for Slow Decision, and I’ll handle it personally.
