A certain young lady is 42 today (at least that’s what 85 sounds like to me) so huge birthday greetings to the powerhouse that is Wally Funk. Pilot, adventurer and - thanks to @blueorigin - astronaut!

Four congresswomen have introduced a bill to recognize the Mercury 13, a group of women who passed the same screening tests as the 1st male NASA astronauts but were denied a chance to fly in space. Some of the 13 are shown at Kennedy Space Center in 1995. bit.ly/3QkrzVN

I can hardly believe that it's two years ago today that Wally Funk's 40 year old dream came true and she finally went into space at the age of 82. #Believe

Due to a few technical issues at the @BIS_spaceflight Sir Arthur Clarke Awards last night, people could hear but not see Wally Funk's video on receiving the International Award. So here's the slightly shorter Twitter version! She starts with her spaceflight...
Wally Funk won the international Sir Arthur Clarke award last night for “significant or outstanding lifetime achievement” relating to her work with kids STEM and space! Collected on her behalf by her friend & Wally Funk’s Race for Space author @ScienceNelson

Three years ago the paperback of @WallyFunksSpace (and Wally) hit the UK. Today I’m heading to Leeds to attend a musical workshop with @helenarney and @LeedsDrama students on women and space. Doing what you love leads to wonderful adventures 🙂

Sue Nelson delighted the MajorTim.space Young Ambassadors with her knowledge of women in space.
Turns out that Sue is also a Star Wars fan - this was the topic of much lively conservation amongst the entire group!

Funk was awarded NAA's 2021 Stinson trophy for "...inspiring the next generation of aerospace professionals as a pioneering member of the Mercury 13, flight instructor, air safety investigator, and the oldest woman to fly in space."
ALT Graphic of a quote by Wally Funk which states "Higher, faster, longer- that is my motto. I can go out there and do anything." To the right of the quote is a picture of Wally Funk with her hands on her heart, smiling, and looking out into a audience.
