A lot of you are connected to me through one bit of work or another, so here's the rest. I'm Philip Wallage. I live in Deventer and grew up in Hoorn. I'm 40, and happier than I've ever been. I got married in 2025. My son just turned 6 and skateboards. I skate next to him on aggressive inline skates... Which is a sentence I didn't expect to be writing at 40. I studied in Amsterdam (HvA) and never finished it. Client work came first, and it kept coming. I'm a UX/UI designer at KVK. Wednesday is for BTNG, my solo studio, where I do UX and CRO for Shopify stores. That's fully booked for the rest of the year, so there's nothing to sell in this post. The rest of my time goes into my own products. Doorstapp is a subscription manager on top of Moneybird. Zeppol does Peppol e-invoicing for Shopify B2B. Wando turns your photos into collage posters. Outside of all that: Espresso's, energy drinks and gaming. If you want to see how the products turn out, follow or connect and you'll see the updates here.

But is it any good? I know we all love the free stuff and the drama… but did anyone do an honest side-by-side comparison?
The indie hacker loop: - Ahmed pays $39/mo for DataFast - So he builds DataBull for $29 lifetime - 4 hours later Surendra open sources it for $0 - I tell my agent to host it, and it does everything Never sell to indie hackers 😭

Calm day today. Finished a major portfolio project this week, extended the subscription with an existing client and starting up a new one for the rest of the year. Since I started with a regular contract, I’ve been able to keep 2 design subs rolling. Meaning behind my fulltime salary, I’m able to bank-up €16k each month! It does take away from my long-term goal: Income from my own digital products. But each month with 2 subs, buys me 2 months a free time in the future.

Remember, “Excellence. Simply Delivered.” Is @DHLGlobal officials slogan. Never seen one of their trucks with all bumpers attached.

Autumn cleaning! Two cars full of baby stuff, traphekjes and lord knows what donated to the cause. (And one small garbage pile added).

I'm an AI-first designer. Here's how I work. P.S.: From a tool perspective. People come first, always.

This is Vinny. The new bot who handles my administration. Is this going too far? Hey {FirstName}, I'm Vinny, Philip's money guy. Here's the deal. Attached you'll find invoice {document.invoice_id}. Philip did the work, I keep the books. Nothing personal, just business. Pay it before 2026-10-23 and we stay good friends. Easy. Respect, Vinny on behalf of Philip Wallage

Oh, I'm not even joking. I'm going for the most bad-ass @moneybird setup you've ever seen.

That final reminder? {recipient.name}, Vinny. Last time I'm asking. Two reminders. Nothing. These invoices are still open: {reminders_table} This is the third and final reminder. You've got 5 days to pay. After that it goes to a collections agency, and the statutory collection costs come on top. That's not a threat, that's just how it works. Pay here and this all goes away: {recipient.show_open_invoices_online_url} I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. Really. Already paid? Then forget this one, and no hard feelings. Vinny for {company.company_name}

Perhaps I went a bit overboard with the personalization of my @Grok bots...

Mornin’! Yesterday’s Birthday party was a blast but I’m pretty tired. Today will be a long day in Utrecht at the job (11mo remaining). My first goal will be to find a good coffee place that opens before 09:00. Trying out Grok Bot was a lot of fun yesterday. It’s a lot of fun having Bots with their own voices. Did I already say I need coffee? Or a white Monster… Okay, get over it. Let’s get it! What are your plans?
