Scotland's capital has a new Maths Circle! Our Circle at the @EdinburghUni is our third north of the border, joining Glasgow and St Andrews.
Know a young problem-solver in Edinburgh? Find out how to join: wesolveproblems.org.uk/maths…
Saturday was our first Maths Circle at the University of Leeds! Welcome to our new students, and thanks to the Leeds maths students tutoring them. It's great to be in the first City of Maths.
Places are still open, check wesolveproblems.org.uk/maths… for how to apply
Not long left to sign-up for the London Verbal Maths Challenge! This event in early October is your chance to attend our Circles at @ KCL and @ UCL, but online selection starts at the end of next week. You can apply via this form forms.gle/v7nuXr1RAGWFK5CB6.
Congratulations to everyone finishing Year 11 on their GCSE results - and to our sixth-form tutors on their A-levels. Some of you will be back as WSP tutors before long; for everyone else, we know the problem-solving you've built here will open doors well beyond maths.
Massive congratulations to our nine tutors who coached at the 1729 Maths School camp. Tutors are the heart of what makes an event like this work, and we couldn't be prouder of the energy and expertise they're bringing to a new group of exceptional young mathematicians.
Dear parents and teachers, Maths Circles are coming to Edinburgh and Leeds! We invite all students aged 11-15 who enjoy mathematics and problem-solving to join. Sessions are weekly and free of charge. You can find more details here wesolveproblems.org.uk/maths….
Last week, our tutors and students went head-to-head in an online chess tournament with over 50 players. Congratulations to Henry (aka beans_in_a_tin) at KCL in third, Arjun (mulreddy) at KCL in second, and Noah (Theveganchessplayer) at Durham in first!
After the final Maths Battles, we're now at the end of the season! We hope you enjoyed this year as much as we did, and many thanks to everyone involved. Have a restful and (fingers crossed) sunny summer ☀️. Keep an eye out in August for the next move (d4?)
Can you solve it? @alexbellos included some of our chessboard-related problems in his weekly puzzle column, check it out here: theguardian.com/science/2026…
Saturday was the London Inter-School Maths Battle!
During the break, we had a guest lecture - thank you to Ben Sparks for showing us the magic of maths.
Well done to all of the teams for solving several difficult problems - I was in awe at the elegance of some solutions.
Over the past few weeks, Papplewick School has hosted a 'mini league' of Battles, with St. Paul's Junior school winning Monday's final.
Many thanks to Mrs. Tudoran for organising this! It'd be great for Maths Battles Leagues to spread to lots more schools, so please reach out.
We're thrilled to announce that WSP will feature in two of Ekaterina Eremenko's films being shown at the ICM!
The first looks at Maths Circles across the globe and the second highlights the 1729 Maths Camp, with whom we work closely, both with problems and tutors.
The *new* most Northern Circle! (in England, that is)
This Saturday we opened our newest Maths Circle, in Durham. Thank you to @durham_uni Department of Mathematical Sciences for supporting us in this beautiful city!
Ethan, one of the students at our Circles, got a fantastic result in the Cayley Maths Olympiad!
