The Milwaukee Brewers are the first team in the history of American sports to get swept 0-4 in the postseason and then sweep that same opponent 4-0 the following year. A “revenge sweep” has only happened 4x prior - never in consecutive 7-game series, and never in the MLB at all.

"All the analytics nerds are looking for jobs with Meta." No, dude, they're working for the Brewers
The Brewers play baseball the way it was intended. Contact plays. Computers off. Calculators in the drawer. Spreadsheets in the trash. All the analytics nerds are looking for jobs with Meta.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Milwaukee Brewers maintain a large Baseball Research & Development department with vice presidents, directors, senior analysts, data engineers and systems staff who develop tools and data for organizational decisions. mlb.com/brewers/team/f… mccormick.northwestern.edu/machine-learni…

Here's a focused look at just Wins Above Bubble, the "most deserving" part of the playoff debate. Seems to do a nice job of sorting teams despite different W-L records and conference affiliations. HT @PDawg206 @CFB_Data

This is why it considers 1-loss Alabama and Kentucky as deserving as undefeated UCLA, Indiana and Notre Dame.

Awesome, Andrew - thank you!
I've been using this tool for the past few weeks and it's outstanding. Beautiful graphics, easy to use, and above all, allows you to enforce your personal worldview on what the CFP rankings should represent .... but requires you to be philosophically consistent in doing so!

"Wins Above Bubble" is a useful new tool in the CFB playoff discussions. Look at how it sorts the current top 11 "most deserving", who are a mishmash of 0- and 1-loss teams with very different conference affiliations: Tier 1: UGA, obviously Tier 2: Undefeated UCLA, Indiana and ND + 1-loss UK and BAMA. Tier 3: Undefeated BYU, Tech, and Miami (!) + 1-loss MissSt and TEX. HT @ralphDrussoATH @PDawg206 @CFBNumbers

Playoff field only going to get more interesting. Georgia stepping up at the top, obviously. Tech, BYU and Utah all crowding in at the bottom. HT @PDawg206 @CFB_Data

If you had to list out six teams that are heavy into analytics, you'd probably have all four of these in that list
Dodgers/Brewers Guardians/Rays In addition to being extremely cool baseball matchups I cannot wait to watch, these are 4 of the most analytics-friendly teams in the game.

Yes please.
Gravity for CFB teams: a team’s opponent’s underperformance the week before and week after their game.

The Rays didn't expect to bunt more often than any team in a decade this season. Nor they did they expect to drive in a run with a bunt more than any team since 1980. But then something became abundantly clear: Nobody knows how to defend bunts anymore. wsj.com/sports/baseball/tamp…

Huge fans here. Timo is one of the most thoughtful analysts we’ve run across. Please keep us posted on what’s next.
Personal news: After 7 years, I'm leaving PFF on Sep 30th. I met tons of great people, including many who are still there. Shoutout to Eric & George who convinced Neil to give a guy from Germany a chance in 2019, providing me with the privilege of turning hobby into profession.
