Participants at the National Stakeholders Forum in Dakar, Senegal, on October 13, 2026, have expressed their commitment to supporting the @WADEMOSnetwork in advocating for the establishment and operationalization of the @ecowas_cedeao Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC).
Organized in partnership with @AFRICTIVISTES and the @wacsi, the Forum brought together activists, youth groups, civil society organizations (CSOs), private sector representatives, and the media to advance dialogue on strengthening citizens’ participation in regional governance.
Discussions focused on key barriers to establishing ECOWAS-ECOSOCC, opportunities for inclusive regional dialogue, using digital tools to enhance civic participation, and strategies to mobilize broader support for the WADEMOS campaign.
The Forum reaffirmed the importance of collective action, regional solidarity, and meaningful citizen engagement in building a more inclusive, accountable, and democratic West Africa.

How can young people shape West Africa’s future if they are missing from the spaces where regional decisions are made?
As ECOSOCC-West Africa moves towards operationalisation, understanding how young people can meaningfully engage with this regional mechanism is increasingly important.
The West Africa Democracy Solidarity Network and partners are bringing young people together to explore what ECOSOCC-West Africa means for them, the barriers that can limit their participation, and the opportunities and entry points for engaging with regional processes.
The conversation will also draw lessons from youth participation within the African Union and other multilateral spaces.
The conversation is happening this Friday.

For too long, conversations about institutional #accountability and #governance have felt disconnected from the language young people actually use.
But across the region 🌍, a growing movement is showing that art🎨can be a powerful tool for civic engagement and #youth voice✊🏽.
At the #WestAfrica Youth Regional Symposium in #Abuja, Nigeria, @NDI and @wademosnetwork created a dedicated space to showcase how creativity can amplify young voices and drive change.

We commemorate #InternationalDemocracyDay by celebrating young people as active participants in shaping democracy.
At the Next Gen Initiative Symposium in Abuja, Nigeria, we explored what democracy means in the everyday lives of young people through stories, experiences, and meaningful conversations.
The reflections remind us that democracy is ultimately about people, participation, and the power to shape the future we share.

As #InternationalDemocracyDay approaches, CSOs across #WestAfrica are raising awareness on important issues around democracy, elections, and citizen participation.
In #Nigeria, CSOs will hold a World Press Conference on “Threats to Nigeria’s Democracy Ahead of the 2027 General Elections.”
In #Ghana, the Citizens Platform for Constitutional Reforms (CPCR) will present a unified CSO position on constitutional reforms, in a bid to amplify citizen voices, and seek to influence the reform process.
Both events will be livestreamed on respective member social media platforms.
