I was tired of struggling to find again links to software engineering articles and things to follow I found interesting so I gathered them here: gist.github.com/vineus/06c97… I will try to keep the list short with only links I often send to other engineers

In 2019, a month after I had joined Shopify, I sent this note to my team. I called it "say the thing" and I think it has stood the test of time well.

Playing snake on @Ubiquiti Etherlighting switch. Most expensive gaming console I own. Game selection is pretty limited due to the poor resolution. They went overkill on ethernet connectivity but forgot about other ports, I can't even plug in my gamepad. But it has RGB. 9/10

Last January, I noticed something peculiar in my 2yo’s bedroom that - after a year of obsessive reporting - led me to a profound cosmic revelation about what’s even possible in our universe. A 🧵.

time estimates from software devs actually make sense if you think of them as "this is how long it would take me the second time if i did this twice in a row"

French train passenger uses his national health card to make himself a foie gras and baguette sandwich. What a country.
Pendant ce temps, sur le TER Bourgogne de @SNCFVoyageurs, un voyageur décide de couper son foie gras avec sa carte vitale. Merci la France 🥰

The key realization to being a great software engineering manager is when you see your job is to show leadership everywhere your team needs help to succeed, _except_ in the areas of software engineering itself, where you need to step back and let the engineers lead.

Facebook uses the concept of adaptative LIFO for queues: - They use FIFO order under normal conditions - They switch over to LIFO order under high load The rationale? By keeping FIFO order under high load, users may have already abandoned their request. Therefore, processing the first-in request means spending resources on a request that is less likely to benefit the user than a request that has just arrived. It keeps the fairness of FIFO and the practicality of LIFO. Fairly smart 👌 dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1145/2…
