All the lies laid bare about floating bus stops. The Times’s @laurencesleator finds 357 cyclists don’t stop in ONE hour at central London stop and TWO crashes occur between cyclists when they do stop and another ploughs into the back of the stopping cyclists. Blind people are expected to negotiate this!! Both TfL and DfT say design is fine and cyclists should stop! Ridiculous.

Fun fact: in the past 16 months, more pedestrians were injured by cyclists (3) on King Street than by motor vehicles (2). The most serious injury was to a 91-year old woman. Where is the concern from @LBHF about that?

.@Willnorman and @TfL say they are introducing floating bus stops to improve cycling safety. This is not true. Here from Queensbridge Road in Hackney. 8 conventional, accessible, bus stops. From TfL’s mapping of 42 cycle collisions over a decade, NONE occurred at bus stops. Almost all happen at junctions.
This is seriously crazy. They are running bikes on a very steep downhill pavement through busy bus stops.

On 26 Jan. 2026, the government published floating bus stop guidance. It says: “The aim should be to deliver inclusive early engagement and consultation.” @hackneycouncil decided to introduce floating bus stops to Queensbridge Road about 16th July 2026. A formal decision report was signed off on 31 July 2026.. inclusive early engagement never happened.

For years we were told that government must give new powers to highways authorities in order to manage dockless cycle hire. That was only ever partly true. Well done Westminster for doing what it can and seizing cycles.

At yesterday’s London Cycling conference London’s Cycling Czar @Willnorman told the blind man in the audience, who described how he can no longer catch a bus to his local shopping street: “I'm sorry that that's, the impact that that's had on your life! Where’s the @MayorofLondon’s blind person’s champion?
Essex County Council say their bus stop design is not a floating bus stops - its a shared cycle/pedestrian area adjacent to a bus stop. How mad is that? Sheila, a blind lady can no longer catch the bus.

The politicians that allowed all of this were told by cycle bloggers that cyclists would improve their behaviour as time went by and cycling was normalised. They were duped.
