New paper out in @JVP_vertpaleo📖While at @AMNH in '22 I found a skull labelled Pseudaelurus, a wastebasket genus for felid which turned out to be the most complete cranium of Adelphailurus kansensis, an early-diverging machairodont🦁🔪

New paper out today where we test the 150-year-old hypothesis that a unique jaw torus seen in Nimravus is an adaptation to resist biting forces using FEA🦁🔪 our results highlight some functional advantage of the torus, which are amplified at larger gape👀 royalsocietypublishing.org/d…

UPDATE: Last week, lions were spotted on a fresh giraffe kill right in the middle of the road, and everyone has been dying to know how they managed to catch it.
Turns out someone was there to film the entire hunt. Watch how these lions climb and mount the giraffe before it loses its footing and collapses to the ground. When it slipped, it was over for the giraffe! 😔
