Mayor Mamdani and 100+ elected officials are calling on NYC parking lot owners to ban ICE from their property.
Their letter invokes the recent ICE shooting in Marble Hill, blocks away from a Target parking lot that they said ICE had been using.
BPRA demonstrated what our movement can win when we organize together. This year, I was proud to win $100M in the state budget for renewable projects just like this one.
Today marks a step towards building a public power future that meets the scale and severity of the crisis.
3 years since we won the Build Public Renewables Act, New York is one step closer to solar socialism.☀️
This is only the first step. Hochul is pushing more fossil fuels and holding NY back from the public renewables we need. Join @NYCDSA_Ecosoc and fight for public power. ⚡️

All models now agree that a strong coastal storm will develop later today. By Sunday, this storm will be pulled westward towards the NJ/NY coast. This will result in a heightened risk of heavy rain, damaging winds and coastal flooding this weekend. More details on the way today.

TRAVEL ADVISORY: Hey New Yorkers, a nor’easter is on the way! 🌧️💨
If you don’t have to travel, stay home and avoid unnecessary trips. Starting around 2 p.m., strong wind gusts could bring down trees and power lines.
Coastal flooding is expected to begin tonight and could be worst Saturday morning, especially in the Rockaways, around Jamaica Bay, and along Staten Island’s coast. If you live in a basement or low-lying area, know your exits and be prepared to move to higher ground if water starts rising.

The storm’s expected path has shifted closer to our city, bringing heavier rain and stronger winds.
If you’re traveling this weekend, give yourself extra time. Check your train, ferry, or flight before you leave, and avoid low-lying coastal roads around high tide.
If you live in a basement apartment, know your way out and be prepared to move to a higher floor if conditions become dangerous.
Look out for your neighbors. And make sure you’re getting the latest updates by texting NOTIFYNYC to 692-692.

Air quality has reached unhealthy levels in parts of NYC due to smoke from Canadian wildfires moving through the city.
Poor air quality affects everyone, but some people are more sensitive to it than others, including people with heart or lung conditions, older adults, pregnant New Yorkers, and infants and children.
Avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, head to a cool space indoors with AC if possible, and follow @NYChealthy guidance: on.nyc.gov/firesmoke
Free masks are available at locations citywide: on.nyc.gov/freemask
Temperatures also remain high — cooling centers are open across the city: finder.nyc.gov/coolingcenter…

Thank you to FDNY for its swift response, and to the Red Cross for supporting 8 families affected by yesterday's fire in Ridgewood.

A heat wave begins today, bringing dangerously high temperatures across New York City.
Today we'll see heat index hit as high as 105 degrees and a chance of isolated thunderstorms beginning this afternoon.
Take a few minutes this morning to make a heat plan by visiting nyc.gov/beattheheat. This includes, but is not limited to:
• Planning to spend time in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible.
• Locating your nearest cooling center by visiting finder.nyc.gov/coolingcenter… or calling 311.
• Avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest hours.
• Learning the signs of heat illness.
• Calling 311 if you see someone experiencing homelessness who may need assistance.
Then, do what New Yorkers do best: look out for one another.
Check on older adults, people with disabilities, neighbors with chronic illnesses, and anyone who may not have access to air conditioning. A simple phone call or knock on the door could save a life.
Visit nyc.gov/beattheheat to make your heat plan today.

🌡️ Heads up, NYC: heat builds Thursday and Friday, feeling like 95 to 100°F (about 35 to 38°C), with scattered storms possible through Friday evening.
NYC Emergency Management is coordinating the City's heat and storm response, and we want every New Yorker to have a Cool Option.
Find your Cool Option:
❄️ A Cool Option is any air-conditioned space where you can get relief: a library, a mall, a museum, a café, or the home of a friend or family member with AC.
🏛️ Official NYC Cooling Centers are free and open in every borough, activated beginning Thursday. Find the nearest one at nyc.gov/beattheheat or call 311.
💧 Drink water before you feel thirsty, take breaks in the shade, and check on neighbors and older adults without AC.
Stay storm-ready:
⛈️ Hear thunder? Head indoors and off rooftops and away from scaffolding
🌳 Watch for falling trees and branches, especially where last weekend's storm left damage. Steer clear of downed limbs and power lines.
🌊 In a basement and water starts coming in? Get to a higher floor or outside right away. Do not wait to see how high it rises.
🚗 Never walk or drive through flooded streets. Turn around, don't drown.

Our office has been following the fire that occurred this morning at a LIC residence. Thank you to the first responders + Red Cross, who has so far registered 2 families for assistance.
Any victims should know immigration status won't factor in when processing requests for help.

Heartbroken to learn a neighbor lost his life and two families were affected in Monday’s fire in Sunnyside.
While we await more updates, I’m grateful to the Red Cross for supporting the families in need and to FDNY for its swift response in bringing the fire under control.
I've been proud to organize and work with Susan Kang for many years in socialist and labor movement spaces here in NYC.
She's exactly the kind of experienced and dedicated public servant that should be serving on the Mayor's newly formed Commission on Government Efficiency.
Thrilled to see PSC Executive Council member @DrSusanLK appointed by @NYCMayor to the Commission on Government Efficiency. Dr. Kang’s decades-long impact on helping to lead political reforms in New York and her academic credentials make her an excellent choice for COGE.
Many teachers + education workers are unfairly excluded from New York’s paid family leave law. My bill, which just passed the Labor Committee, would extend 12 weeks of paid leave to 100,000 more workers across New York!
The bill now heads to Ways and Means, then to the Assembly.

Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie is MAD. "There's no deal," he tells reporters about the budget. "I said to her last night, I was comfortable with her saying to y'all, we're close. It is close. But this is what's wrong with this process... I'm never doing this again"
"We deserve so much more than the scraps the governor is providing."
I joined IONY to *once again* call on Gov. Hochul to take our money back from the billionaire class and deliver a budget that builds the future working people deserve. TAX THE RICH.
No one should have to choose between a job, spending time with their newborn, or caring for a sick loved one. That's why I introduced a bill to extend Paid Family Leave to all teachers + professionals at 501c3 institutions.
Solidarity to UAW7902 in the fight for what's theirs!
