ALT I chose to be a mentor for CEP because I wanted to be a safe place for other WOC emerging scholars in the field. As higher education can often be a toxic space for folx of color, as a black woman scholar/practitioner I aimed to be different. Grounded within a praxis of love, I aimed to create a community that was an extension of their familial and departmental support. It was and is a life affirming moment that has continued even after our designated mentoring timeframe. I see these women as friends and fellow scholars, and I am proud to be in community with them. -Valerie J. Thompson, PhD Assistant Professor Wichita State University
