Thoughts about Holo's marketing tactics... To be frank, I like the Holo idea, I own a Holo port, which means that I support them, and I understand the utility. But I didn't really like Mary at the head of the Holo organization. I like Art and Eric through, they are very consistent over all these years. But Mary never really mastered bridging the traditional business language with p2p economics language, she didn't succeed in bridging the two cultures without generating cognitive dissonance. Therefore she felt fake to me. This Holo post suffers from the same schizophrenic tendency, i.e. oscillating between two paradigms / worlds without providing a rational bridge. If you read Art's past work on Metacurrency you'll learn that money is not wealth and is not essential, in the grand scheme of things, to make a living. We can use a variety of current-sees to establish flows that generate a living, and we can imagine scenarios in which money plays only a minor role, or even no role. It's not even hard to imagine. In fact, money hasn't played a role for the longest part of human existence, and doesn't play a role in some societies and communities even today. If you think I'm talking hippie language or that I'm romanticizing the prehistoric world you don't get my point; you can scroll up them. Well, Holochain inherits that vision. It is a medium that can carry these alternatives to monetary currency. That's the foundational narrative behind Holochain. When you say that our focus is to make money, when you put money as a priority, without saying anything else, implying that we can't make a living without money, you just dropped a pile of crap on top of that exciting, generative, revolutionary original narrative. That original narrative is conducive to deep change. This money statement is not only contradicting that narrative, it actually ridicules it and kills the dream, kills creativity, kills community. One can conclude that Art's Metacurrency ideas were just, well, … some type of naïve dreams. Art's a hippie. Well, it turns out that Art's ideas are embedded deep into what we call Open Value Networks. These ideas are already operational, have a real embodiment. You can't convince me otherwise, I'm in the middle of it. Since I'm actually architecting flows that bypass money (we've already demonstrated that you can reduce the need for cash up to 97% if you want to launch a new hardware artifact), this money talk only reveals to me a lack of depth and sophistication. What's the goal here, and let's see if something good can come out of this cheap money talk. If you read the comments of the original post, the great majority, at the time when I saw the post, are sarcastic comments from angry HOT holders. These are the people who you'd think would buy the money talk. No, your post just made them angrier :) We can also consider the other side of the equation, people like me, who are not just following Holochain and believe in it blindly, but actually using the technology and understand it's generative potential beyond capitalism and money. Well, you got me angry too! So what did you, Holonauts, achieve with this post? You just made everyone angry? That's what I call a marketing failure. Holo needs people who know how to bridge the two cultures, who can navigate the need to sustain current development while maintaining the creativity and innovation fire, maintaining the generative potential of the community that formed around Holochain. This is HUGE! Another dimension of how AI amplifies p2p, and by the same token weakens the post industrial institutional world. People are now free to collaboratively and dynamically define and build their digital spaces, which also means that they are now in charge of their collective behavior and culture. Big platforms lose their ability to shape humans. With that, National Governments lose their ability to control humans. Nation States are further weaken. The p2p global society is emerging as people reclaim their sovereignty. I've coined the expression Multitude Movement back in 2009 from the perspective of power relations. They are tapping into the representational power of generative grammars, they design with fractal composability in mind. I still don't understand how the US move towards private stablecoins as retail digital currency can work. If the whole thing is backed by debt, as the US economy is collapsing and its ability to honor its debt commitments weakens, then how can stable coins remain stable? Stable to what, to a weakening currency that other people around the world will not need? The plan for these private stable coins issuers is to profit from the interest associated with the debt that they purchase. But as the US empire collapses these profits get smaller and these coin issuers may simply implode. How could this work if it hinges on the condition that the US economy will continue to grow, that the US will maintain its global hegemony, while everything points to the opposite? I predict that this experent will fail, not because people will oppose it to preserve freedom. I lost any hope for Americans to stand up to defend their freedom.
