In Virginia the @VTTurfgrass Team likes to say "we can grow 8 grasses for lawns... not very well". But there are better grass choices than others for specific locations & uses. This new @VACoopExt publication details things to consider in grass selection: pubs.ext.vt.edu/SPES/spes-74…

Hearing & seeing the same thing as @turfbutler, especially in our warmer regions of Virginia. He has provided great advice to stay on top of this potentially devastating disease that is primed to explode after our weather pattern shifted from desert to tropics recently. #vaturf

Virginia turfgrass managers - be aware of what @DrTurfBug is seeing in NC. Note that @VACoopExt Specialist @TomKuhar reported them a few days ago in some corn trials. After 2021 'Armywormageddon', might want to at least have a game plan in place if FAW become a problem. #vaturf

Turf twitter colleagues - curious to your thoughts about "less mow April" vs "no mow May". @vtturfweeds had compelling arguments for why in the Mid-Atlantic that our hypothesis is that a "less mow April" strategy will work better:

Fall Armyworm update from @lejodelpozo: I was contacted by a LCO on Friday, Aug 18 reporting some FAW activity here in Virginia Beach. We have seen very low numbers of adult captures across our bucket traps in Richmond, Williamsburg and Virginia Beach.
