There have been plenty of fall armyworm moths and they showed up a bit early, but no reports of actual armyworm damage yet. It is still early for North Carolina.

Plenty of fall armyworms out there in September. Not a repeat of 2021, but plenty of action that may demand your attention.
Fall armyworms in most places more normal this year. No reports of 2021 disasters. There is still a lot of fall armyworm season left so keep your eyes open.
Fall armyworm moths are present throughout the state of North Carolina. Doesn't mean it will be a serious problem this year, but it should get our attention to be on the lookout in the coming weeks.
