Public speaking at @Ultraspeaking taught me that speaking is fun, my voice matters, and pausing is powerful. For design leaders, communication isn't a soft skill—it's how you get alignment, build trust, and move organizations toward better outcomes.

I am super grateful for all the public speaking courses I took in high school and college. I think that this is going to be the new skill set that younger folks in this era of AI need to master. Being able to form thoughts quickly and with clarity is something that I think is only going to improve how you prompt. In addition to that, I'm increasingly using voice AI to dictate all of my messages—that's texts, emails, everything that I can do. It's doubling my productivity. And again, I'm grateful that my public speaking courses help me to do all this work easily. And yes, I dictated post this using voice AI.

Very fun conversation with one of the founders of @Ultraspeaking about learning, effort, self-forcing vs effortlessness and flow.
"All effort is unnecessary effort" says @reasonisfun in the very first sentence of our interview. A mind-bending conversation where Alexander Technique meets Ultraspeaking meets the paradox of effortless action. Listen here: youtu.be/rxXpUXttlNU

now I’ve got speaking skill (ty @Ultraspeaking), I’ve noticed two surprising things: 1. [less surprising but still cool] I’m speaking freely in situations I would have been anxious about before, without trying (eg told barista he handsome; asserted a boundary via VM)

If I could go back, the simplest yet most powerful advice I'd give myself is: Raise your hand more. Afraid of asking a "stupid" question? Hesitant to volunteer? Pushing past that fear unlocks an incredible positive feedback loop. Each time gets easier, builds confidence, and helps you step more fully into your world. Don't hold back! Freeze up when asked a tough question on the spot? 🤯 Instead of scrambling for the "perfect" answer, learn the power of questioning the question itself. Two failure modes that everyone* falls into: 1. Autopilot: turning off, blind implementing. 2. Over-engineering: planning, trying, getting lost in overthinking. Surprisingly, they both boil down to the same mistake! [* perhaps except enlightened monks..?]

Joining something new, especially focused on speaking, can feel daunting! If any of these thoughts sound familiar, you're not alone: 😟 "My anxiety is too high. I'll freeze up." 😥 "What if I'm the least experienced person there?" 🤔 "Is it really worth the time and investment?" 😬 "Will this actually help me stop rambling or feeling awkward?" 😨 "I hate the idea of being put on the spot." It's completely normal to feel this way. But what if these fears are the exact reason to join? Our April-May cohorts are now enrolling! 🔗 buff.ly/POiZuGs

What if speaking wasn’t a performance, but a translation of your inner world? Real speaking isn’t polished. It’s messy. It’s a raw attempt to take a swirl of memories, instincts, and insight and turn it into something another person can feel. That’s why it’s hard. That’s why it matters. You don’t need to sound perfect. You just need to transmit the spark. And remember, when you join an Ultraspeaking cohort, you're also joining a community of peers who want you to succeed, and who want you to find that spark Join an upcoming cohort today! 🔗 buff.ly/lZa4pfF

Think you just rambled? You probably didn’t. Most of the time, we make more sense than we give ourselves credit for. Just because *you* feel unsure about what you said doesn’t mean the audience feels the same. In fact, the moment you doubt yourself is often the moment you should lean in and finish strong. End like you meant it. Say something that sounds final. Even a simple, confident close like "…and that’s all I have to say about that" can anchor your message. Ready to unlock your speaking potential? Our next Ultraspeaking cohort will give you the tools and confidence you need to Finish Strong. ➡️ buff.ly/6mL8fPA
