#Birds are on migration now. #LightsOFF, please!!
-Lights disorient and kill migratory birds (365 to 988 million birds per year in the US).
-We have lost 29% (2.9 Billion) of North American breeding birds since 1970.
-We can't afford to lose more.

Really excited to see this effort w/ @JerodMerkle @AshlynHalseth + others not on twitter to summarize decades of elk research. Beyond elk, this textbook is a great collection of info that fills an important gap in many wildlife programs! Best of all, it's open access, link below

Calling all #ESA2023 Portland:
Stop by the Fence Ecology Inspire Session, Monday 13:30 (loc. 251) for an awesome dialogue about barriers and animal movement.
I'm honored to be able to present some work, and am so excited to hear others' @ESA_org @wyo_migrations

🚨 New paper @ESAEcology 🚨
Happy 2 share my last PhD chapter is in the wild. We used #stableisotopes to explore #foodweb variation in streams from the Rocky Mountains to the Great Plains 🏞️.
Big hat tip by my adviser Frank Rahel and the @UWyoPiEE community 4 support.
Now online in @ESAEcology:
Aquatic food web expansion and trophic redundancy along the Rocky Mountain—Great Plains ecotone
doi.org/10.1002/ecy.4103
With #OpenData in @ZENODO_ORG
#FishSci #StableIsotopes #CommunityEcology @BryanMaitland

ALT Processes potentially contributing to food web expansion and compression, and trophic redundancy associated with changes along longitudinal stream gradients. Panel a): changes in trophic diversity for fish and aquatic invertebrates (measured by total isotopic niche breadth). Panel b): changes to trophic redundancy within the fish community (as measured by isotopic niche overlap among species within a local community)
Awesome work from PiEE’d own @migration_anna showing how a terrestrial migrant compensates migration timing to optimize the foraging benefit of their migrations. Well worth the read!
Incredibly excited to share some recent work from @UWyoPiEE on migrating mule deer! This was a huge effort that required years of data and would not have been possible without all coauthors and collaborators from the @BLMNational and @WGFD!

Thanks @UWyoPiE for a super fun day at the annual #PiEE Symposium! Awesome to see all the amazing grad students presenting their work, and so perfect that @malia_santos1 won Best Presentation at the first symposium as the expanded Program in Ecology & EVOLUTION! Congrats, Malia! – at Laramie, WY
Spencer Cruz is giving his talk on introduced trout in alpine lakes and the effects on plankton communities
Spencer Cruz is giving his talk now. Don’t miss the chance to learn about introduced trout and zooplankton dynamics. Come to berry center or zoom in UWyo email
PiEE student Linnea Rock @RockLinnea is rocking out on lake eutrophication at the #PiEE symposium
Hey PiEEple the Keynote Speaker Dr Mike Remke has started, but don’t miss out on this cool soil Ecology talk!

Exciting news from @TanaVerzuh of PiE, who recently published her second chapter from her MSc with Kevin Monteith of the Haub School.
Tana's paper reports on moose's ability to regulate their body temp via habitat selection.
Congratulations, Tana!

I have grad student positions available! Looking for MS/PhD students with fundamental interests in evolutionary biology who want to work with genomic data applied to questions of conservation relevance. All projects are focused on freshwater fishes. cewagnerlab.com/2023/01/13/o…
