Here's one for all you #Oppenheimer fans - after Albert Einstein sent this letter to FDR, a scientific committee was formed to study whether a nuclear weapon was feasible. This ultimately led to the creation of the Manhattan Project. #ArchivesScience

I was honored to visit and speak at the @TrumanLibInst today to commemorate the 75th anniversary of President Harry Truman’s historic recognition of the State of Israel, 11 minutes after its independence. President Truman’s courageous decision was guided by a deep moral conviction in the Jewish people’s right to self-determination. It paved the way for decades of a unique alliance and friendship between our two nations, which remain strong to this day. Israel is proud to be part of a defining moment of President Truman’s presidency and to stand together with the United States as a beacon of freedom and democracy in a turbulent world.

One of the coolest carvings in our collection is this tiny #swan carved on a matchstick. Yep. A matchstick. #ArchivesForTheBirds. The donor is unknown, the tiny bird carving was sent over to the White House from the State Department in '77. Object: 77.231.7 #ArchivesHashtagParty

So how many licks DOES it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center... We’re pretty sure that’s not what @CAStateParks ranger Ed Strain was asking when he found this baby Great Horned Owl at the @usbr San Luis unit in June 1970. #ArchivesHashtagParty #ArchivesForTheBirds
