This is like Whitmire bitching about the bike lanes being only for the benefit of a bunch of rich capacino liberals. Go spend a morning on 11th. The primary utalizer of those bike lanes are service industry folks *biking to work.* -OS

The next mayor needs to campaign on improved metro service tied to a fare increase. Would attract inner loop professionals and blue dog democrats ("fiscal responsibility")

In reality American cities spent the back half of the 20th century tearing down half their downtown buildings for surface lots and the top complaint everyone still has about them is that there’s nowhere to park
This is the most walkable city I’ve ever been to It’s incredibly easy to walk to your car and then drive to your destination

There is a version of the United States where ~60-70% of Americans, including middle-class families, live in urban cores and use public transit in their daily lives. In that world, state and local governments have gobs of revenue and broad political support to fund serious, sustained programs addressing mental health and homelessness. This version depends mostly on building far more family-friendly housing in cities (Everything else flows downstream of that anyway). But it also depends on maintaining transit that is clean, orderly, and safe—enough for example that a parent would feel completely comfortable letting their middle schooler take the train to school.
there are few things i truly loathe quite like people who take their security and comfort for granted to such an extent that they’ll see a homeless person having a mental episode and utterly hitting rock bottom and think of themselves as the victim for having merely witnessed it.

Because while a person sick with carbrain sees an "empty" transit or bike lane, what anyone who understands geometry & urban mobility sees is space that moves orders of magnitude more humans, in less time, than cars. Yes, folks, cars are physical objects -- even Waymos!

if you want the official Alex Godofsky Shelter Policy, it's a combo of 1) YIMBY 2) legalize various kinds of extremely cheap housing like boarding houses 3) involuntary commitment 4) crime enforcement 5) shelter funding as needed but critically not "put them on the subway"

I know he’s so pissed that the public found out about his plans so he couldn’t get away with doing this one discreetly
Just heard from the mayor's office that there will not be a press conference surrounding the Irvington @ Patton roundabout tomorrow.

#HISD Miles will cherrypick data to push his immoral agenda. State & HISD show similar results for Alg, Eng 1, Eng II. How did other large urban districts fare post-pandemic? Note: High stakes testing worsens inequities in public education. houstonchronicle.com/news/ho…

In Harris County, we need a smart transportation network that cuts congestion, keeps communities intact and increases flood resiliency. Right now, TxDOT has a massive plan for I-45 expansion that doesn't check any of those boxes. For months we’ve been advocating for a better plan

More and bigger highways don’t solve our problems, they add to them. Here are the top 5 reasons the TxDOT I-45 expansion project as currently designed is bad for our community.

Of course this approach has worked famously well for Texas' electric grid, too

Abbott says businesses can choose to operate business way they want to -- including mask mandates, occupancy limitations -- but says at this point the state doesn't need to tell them how to operate #txlege #COVID19

What is most infuriating about @GregAbbott_TX and @DanPatrick response to the blackout is that they pretend they and their party did not create this system. Abbott appoints the PUC! GOPers blocked reliability standards. Do not let them blame the poor @ERCOT_ISO folks for this.

What’s going on in Texas is what happens in a one party state where every single statewide politician has no professional skills beyond stoking culture war bullshit every day so they didn’t winterize its generation sources the last time this happened texastribune.org/2021/02/16/…

I've been seeing a lot of tweets blaming Texas blackouts on wind power. Minnesota's wind turbines operate down to about -20. We've had to turn them off before when it did get too cold, but the problem in Texas is not "renewables are bad", it's more complicated than that ...
Replying to @maggiekb1
Did you see the answer from Matthew, he said it well. Wind turbines have an option known as the "cold weather package", and surprise most in MN have it, most it TX don't. It includes things like extra insulation, interior heaters, some additional ice resistance. xitter.cf/messages/compose?recip…

I expect that within 10 years Texas will be the undisputed world leader in advanced geothermal energy because they have the drilling expertise and they don’t have a lot of federal land, so drilling permits don’t have to go through NEPA review.

If you’re a white supremacist fascist who doesn’t find it offensive when someone calls your wife ugly, Ted Cruz is the exact motherfucker for you.
Charming, civil, educated response. ⁦@Sethrogen⁩ If you’re a rich, angry Hollywood celebrity, today’s Dems are the party for you. If you’re blue-collar, if you’re a union member, if you work in energy or manufacturing...not so much. #JobsMatter

Black and brown neighborhoods have been disproportionately divided by highway projects or left isolated by the lack of adequate transit and transportation resources. In the Biden-Harris administration, we will make righting these wrongs an imperative.
