Remembering Donna Summer on this day, who was likely a casualty of 9/11.
Donna lived by the towers and reported breathing in toxic dust clouds. She later developed lung cancer and attributed it to the air quality on 9/11 and the days that followed.
Donna died on May 17, 2012, at the age of 63.

On September 15, 2001, Balbir Singh Sodhi was planting flowers outside his Arizona gas station when Frank Roque pulled up and fatally shot him. Roque wanted revenge for 9/11 and mistook Sodhi, a Sikh man, for a Muslim because of his turban.
Sodhi became the first person killed in a post-9/11 retaliatory hate crime, marking the beginning of a devastating wave of violence against Muslims, Sikhs, Arabs, South Asians, and other brown Americans.
