For those wanting & expecting a "Covid amnesty", a thread:
For 23 months of the lockdown & restrictions, I saw my mental health go down the drain and I nearly lost my job.
Wow!!!
A wonderful photo of Victorian street life, a baked potato seller in 1892, photographed by Edgar Scamell.
The elaborate wheeled oven kept the potatoes piping hot, providing cheap, filling food for people on the move. On bitter winter days, a hot potato could even double as a hand warmer before you ate it!

Having read some of Queen Victoria's letters, deciphering her handwriting is a lot of work.....
"You will be pleased at May's having a 3rd son which delighted us all." Letter of #QueenVictoria of 2 April 1900 to her grandson Prince Alexander of Battenberg aka Alexander Mountbatten. She refers to Mary, Princess of York (later #QueenMary), and her son Henry, born 31 March.
The sheer hubris of the BBC.
People have switched off from the BBC in droves for their shite content and lying.
If the BBC is so good, people would be clamouring to watch it. The fact that they're not is lost on the BBC nomenklatura.
Nandy considers ‘Netflix tax’ to fund BBC
Matt Brittin, the BBC director-general, has said that he also wants its news content to start appearing on other streaming sites, including Netflix.
He has said:
"I’d like to see reform that allows us to be where audiences are. I think BBC content should be on Netflix, on YouTube, on TikTok, on Spotify, and Instagram, and everywhere where audiences are.
“Particularly news, actually, which I think is part of disinfecting misinformation. It’s our job to be everywhere.”
Is he serious? Disinfecting misinformation? As recently as yesterday, an MP from @lisanandy 's own party wrote to the DG about biased coverage.

BBC licence fee to be extended to YouTube, Netflix & Amazon.
This is completely unacceptable.
Those of us who have decided not to watch terrestrial TV should not be forced to pay for and prop up an outdated system.
Let the BBC sink or swim on its own.

I am minded of Sean Walsh's description, in his interview by Lembit Öpik.
"Economies are about the way in which people interact with each other. They're about people's habits of day-to-day living. Economies emerge from all of that. The transactions that people make day to day. If you interfere with that then you do not know what the consequences are long term.
[...]
The government thought or the State thought the economy was something that could be switched off for a while and switched back on again. It's not. It's an organism and if you turn an organism off, you can do all sorts of damage to it that you wouldn't have predicted." youtube.com/watch?v=RTgfJ5N6…
Blast from the past:
A day in the heart of 1930s London. Piccadilly Circus There are plenty of people around, yet what really stands out is how much space there seems to be. Buses, taxis and motorcars pass through the famous junction while Londoners go about their day, without the crush we associate with central London today. With the familiar advertising signs towering above, it shows a wonderfully ordinary glimpse of London nearly a century ago.
Looking forward to this. Am curious especially with Napoleon's relationship with Jean Baptise Bernadotte.
Started this last night.
Today is its publication date.
Its brilliant….
@aroberts_andrew
Have pre-ordered this and looking forward to it.
This doesn't surprise me as the cynic in me always doubted there was a "public vote." If that was the case, why didn't I get something about this through the post?
The Bank of England DELIBERATELY FIXED the fake "public vote" to remove ALL historical figures from bank notes & replace them with nature images
Freedom of Information requests by the Telegraph revealed the decision to remove historical figures was based on a "focus group" of a mere 119 people
The Bank LIED because it previously claimed the decision was based on a "public vote".
In truth, however, even this vote was FIXED. Instead of having HISTORY v NATURE, the bank deliberately split the "history" category into 3 sections: historical events, historical figures, architecture & landmarks.
That was the only way that "nature" could win.
However, of course bank notes always combine at least two of those history categories. For example: Churchill & Parliament or Wellington & Waterloo.
The Bank's actions are indefensible and questions should be asked in the House.
The Bank of England has clearly been captured by progressive woke ideology. A visit to the Bank of England with its permanent exhibition on slavery makes that clear
This is part of the wider war on British history. It's an attempt to create a NEW BRITAIN, based on ridiculous myths that "Diversity Built Britain" and that Britain has always been multicultural.
Remember: the Bank of England issued a 50p coin (held aloft by Rishi Sunak) which was imprinted with the nonsensical statement: "Diversity Built Britain"
Anyone who lived behind the Iron Curtain will find all of this eerily and scarily familiar.
The pulling down of statues, the renaming of streets and schools, the rewriting of history, denigrating heroes, changing bank notes etc....these were all tactics of the communists.
Severing the connection between a people and their history is the best way to demoralise a society and prepare them for the imposition of new myths.
Me on @GBNews:
Another book to add to my ever increasing pile!!!
Great to visit @Hatchards in Piccadilly to sign copies of my new book 'Napoleon & His Marshals', which is published today #Napoleon #NapoleonicWars
All is not lost.
Good luck to Lavinia and the Cambridge University Free Speech!!!
I'm delighted to announce the launch of the Cambridge University Free Speech Society!
A sorely needed space at Cambridge, where you can escape the group think, have your views challenged, and make friends with people who don't agree with you.
No trigger warnings. No 'safe spaces'. No Welfare Officer. We believe these are underhanded ways of stifling speech.
Any and all support appreciated 🩵
😂😂🤣🤣🤪🤪
Whoever thought of this was genius.
@alexburghart would make an excellent tour guide!
To truly understand the Birmingham Tapestry, I have asked a doctor of Anglo-Saxon History to take us all through it.
Step forward, Conservative Party Deputy Leader, Dr @alexburghart .
I read this a few years' ago and highly recommend it.
Just finished reading @GadSaad's Suicidal Empathy and can't recommend it enough. As someone who grew up in an authoritarian culture, it's appalling to witness this phenomenon especially "govern me harder daddy."
Dopamine is the brain’s reward chemical, released when we achieve goals, eat well, or engage in survival-promoting behaviors. In Suicidal Empathy, Gad Saad argues that modern social dynamics, especially on social media, have hijacked this system:
1. The Neurology: Publicly taking a loudly righteous or highly compassionate stance (e.g., posting a supportive hashtag, defending a marginalized group, or advocating open borders) yields what Saad calls a “dopamine hit of looking compassionate right now.” Immediate social approval, praise, and self-righteousness register as a powerful, addictive reward.
2. The “Mirror of Moral Preening”: Those chasing this hit admire their reflection as a good person. Because the reward is instant upon the statement or vote, they feel profound personal validation.
3. The Danger: Ignoring Second-Order Effects: The desire for a quick emotional high creates blindness to causal thinking. People focus on first-order effects (how kind an action feels now) while ignoring disastrous long-term consequences.
Example: Advocating soft-on-crime laws or defunding the police delivers an immediate dopamine rush of feeling progressive and empathetic toward criminals. The second-order effect is a spike in crime that harms innocent citizens and destabilizes communities.
Great book!

Yeah, we don’t actually give a damn.
Just like lefties using us as scapegoats to try & change Christmas to “Happy Holidays” on our behalf.
No, just say Happy Christmas!

I have a dream. I dream of a day when men in the West will find their spines and testicles, and rise up against parasitized suicidal empathy. I dream of a day when the populace will rise up against parasitic taxation whereby a large chunk of an individual's hard-earned money is stolen. I dream of a day when universities recommit to intellectual enrichment void of ideological activism. I dream of a day when people recognize that all religions are not equally congruent with our liberties and freedoms. I dream of a day when our grandchildren will live in freer societies than those of our grandparents. I dream of a day when people who fail to recognize the two phenotypes (male and female) are laughed out of public discourse. I dream of a day when every single person who adheres to a religious ideology that wishes to exterminate us is removed from our midst. Freedom and truth are the ideals from which all else that is good flows. I have a dream.
