A provocation: if this GLSL shader was one shoted with a skills.md that requests to impersonate me, and indeed does pull my work on shapes, lighting, animation and delivers my style, maths, techniques and conventions (to the variable name)... isn't this actually, MY brain's work? Should I claim it as mine? Claude only did the mechanical/easy part of immitating my usual moves to put this together.
Video 2 GLSL I gave Claude Opus 5.5 a 20-second video clip. It rebuilt the whole thing as one GLSL fragment shader: 156 KB of code, no textures, no video frames. Just math, looping seamlessly

i love watching people become more of who they already are. the friend who starts dressing differently. the quiet person who discovers their voice. the artist who stops asking permission. there's something sacred about witnessing somebody become less afraid of their own life.

> get no work done lmao, Imagine being so fucking brain dead and so reliant on AI that when you can't use it you turn into a fucking intellectually lobotomised turnip, incapable of independent thought.
Throw another $ 100 at Anthropic, or get no work done the next two days?

Honestly, there's already a lot of economic uncertainty in game dev already, and suddenly a magic "I can do your job" machine shows up. A lot of the game devs I know personally who have "gotten mad" at AI are worried about how they're going to pay their mortgages. I know people who have been out of work since last year, people whose contract backlogs are empty, people who see their companies halting hiring, people who are afraid they'll have to lay off their junior staff to stay competitive, and some new Uber drivers. I don't know any of these supposedly "mad" devs who are angry that you can make a game now. But I do know a lot who have kids, families, obligations, and specialties whose futures look uncertain. I'm struggling to believe anybody doesn't get that.
Game devs, instead of getting mad that AI can do things you spent years learning, imagine what you could build with all that experience AND AI. We have the opportunity to make games that were never possible before. Why aren't we more excited about that?

Instead of living in imaginary lala-land looking at benefits, acknowledge what is required to make this tech stack work in the first place: Theft. Taking training data without consent, credit or compensation. I simply don’t want stolen goods in my pipeline. Fuck those who do.

Also if you feed my work into AI without my consent and proceed to label my work AI-generated, that is grounds for a lawsuit. Enough is enough!

Begging you people to please look at the lives of your age mates outside the country and understand what this people have taken from us. Nothing about how we’re living is ok. Absolutely nothing. It is not language or culture or alliance to tribesmen that will save us.

Yemi Alade talks about working with Beyoncé on ‘BLACK IS KING’. ‘I walked into her office and there were all the pictures of African artists on her wall, and my picture was so big.. it had my tribal paints.. I felt so alive. I felt seen in my true element’

I knew that lady was lying when she said she watched it on the jumbo screen. They came out and said, “We didn’t have a jumbo screen that year.” Then she said she spoke with the lead singer of her favorite band, but the band released a statement saying that was impossible because they were across the country on tour that night. Lastly, her own father said he doesn’t remember driving four or five hours in the middle of the night to pick up his teenage daughter after she was allegedly sexually assaulted. He said that’s something he would remember if it had happened. But y’all were comfortable running with her story because it was Jay-Z. Y’all are sick people who wanted to destroy a Black man for no reason.

The truth is, it was your gender that made argument, not women. Y’all convinced yourselves that a man can cheat and still love his woman, but a woman can’t because she “cheats with emotions.” All this time, you’ve been lying to yourselves.
The biggest lie ever said by women is they can't sleep with someone they don't like.

Holy cats I did not expect this post to blow to the far reaches of the internet. Since the internet loves to spin everything to fit their own biases, time to clear things up a bit: - Yes, I am seriously considering a career outside of software development. Most professional software developers I've talked to that have been in the industry for a long time feel the same as me—overwhelmed and/or bored. People that weren't developers before don't seem to care or understand this. But it's also kind of hard to switch careers when you're almost 40, so maybe I'll be stuck doing this until we're all robot slaves on UBI. -About half the comments misunderstood why I want to leave software development. I want to leave because I'm bored. I've coded for 20 years, enjoyed it very much, and now I don't code. Not a very surprising outcome. I'm sure if you took any craft tradesman and put them into a factory to build the same thing, 90% would want to quit. - No the industry is not dead, it's just shifting. I just have no interest in shifting with it. There will be less software engineers for sure but they aren't going away entirely. - I will still continue to support my assets and release the assets I had planned (Water Pro v4, Fire Pro, potentially the rivers add-on not sure yet). After that, I have no idea what I'll do. - People seem to think I am anti-AI. This is hilarious because I've always been very transparent about my AI usage and talked about it on here often. Personally do I think AI is good for humanity? Absolutely not. But as someone who is self-employed, it's either adapt or die. -For some reason people think my post was engagement bait or grifting? What better way to get new customers than to tell them "Hey, you can make all of my assets with AI in 10 minutes so I'm closing shop!" Tongue-in-cheek obviously, but what a ridiculous take on my post. Alright, done talking about this.
I think it's time to hang up my Three.js hat. First of all, this is not a pity post—I'll be fine. I'm also not 100% confident about this. But I'm an over-sharer and like to talk out loud, so I thought I would share some thoughts on where I see things going and why I'm considering quitting Three.js development. Some signals I've noticed lately that have gotten me thinking: - Since Astra was released, I've probably seen at least 10 posts from different people that have achieved similar quality to Three.js Water Pro or better. - Someone downloaded a video recording of one my posts, fed it to Astra and recreated it with 90% accuracy - I've had less and less clients referrals - A Three.js developer I respect very much is retiring from the industry due to impact of AI and lack of interest - I've heard 2nd hand accounts of other developers losing majority of course/plugin sales due to AI - I've noticed Three.js posts have shifted from work created by seasoned developers to vibe-coded games and demos. Fundamentally, I no longer really see value in what I do when it can be replicated so easily. I've always enjoyed working on hard problems. Naturally, outsourcing the hard part to an agent takes away a lot of the enjoyment for me. High-level orchestration of agents does not tickle my brain in any special way. At the end of most days I feel unfulfilled and bored. I honestly feel like I've lost much of my critical thinking ability as I've stopped coding. I find it harder to focus on tasks and my attention-span and comprehension is noticeably dropping. My plan right now is to finish up Water Pro v4 and see how that performs. After that, I think it's time to start thinking about what else is out there for me. I'd love to hear thoughts from other developers & freelancers on the matter, positive or negative. Feel free to vent!

I think a lot of people are missing the point when they say "just build bigger!", "solve bigger problems!" Months of solving a hard problem on a top-tier, 20x coding plan may be reduced to a prompt by the next generation. Will the next version understand taste and execution better? Will it low-level optimize better? Will it have more varied art styles? Feels like we're arguing about how to build the best sandcastle, and the tide's coming in. @dangreenheck
