It’s time to ease the pressures on young people and make the world less heavy. That's the message we're sharing at Kings Cross Station today. Don’t let young people take it on alone

Today at CALM we launched our Missed Birthdays installation. In the last decade, 6,929 young people in the UK have died by suicide. Each balloon represents a young person who took their own life, & a birthday they didn’t get to celebrate. But together we can end youth suicide

I’m really excited to be launching a new phase of my career where I'll be taking on shorter-term contract work in the charity sector. I’ll post more about this later, but in the meantime I’m going to be available from mid-November so do get in touch if you want to talk!

As if we're having to say this in 2024, but we’ll say it again because stigma has real world consequences: 📢 mental health problems are real 📢 the national mental health crisis is real Some recent articles have been lacking facts and evidence, so let us share some (1/6)

Exciting news from @TheMixUK and @GiveUsAShout. We’re coming together to create real impact in youth led mental health support online. Two brilliant teams and one ambitious vision for young people.
We are pleased to announce that The Mix will be merging with Mental Health Innovations, the charity that oversees @GiveUsAShout the 24/7 mental health text service. It has always been our ambition to expand the reach of mental health support we can give to young people across the UK via our digital products and services. This exciting new partnership gives us the opportunity to build on the millions of young people we support each year, no matter what they’re going through💜

These riots started in Parliament. Rioters chant “stop the boats” and “we want our country back” - using language from politicians across the political spectrum. It’s not enough to call out violence, politicians need to stop normalising hate. In policy and practice.

Poverty casts a shadow over a child’s mental health, and it’s a shadow that can last a lifetime. We're urging the Government to: 👉Scrap the two-child limit & benefit cap 👉Expand free school meals provision 👉Introduce a uniform price cap centreformentalhealth.org.uk… #ADualCrisis

Farewell also to the mighty @RobertBuckland who is one of the loveliest people I've worked with - intelligent, brave and consensual, he was such a committed champion for autistic people and deserves a lot of credit for the tireless work he did from the back benches.

Also @ThangamDebb - another committed and passionate advocate for autistic people among many others and can be proud of the campaigner she did on behalf of charities like the NAS.

🚨BREAKING: Today, we're launching groundbreaking legal action against the use of facial recognition technology in the UK. We’re supporting two members of the public, an anti-knife crime community worker and a teenager to bring legal challenges after the technology wrongly flagged them as criminals – and they sought our help. And we're doing this for YOU - to stop the government's alarming push to expand live facial recognition technology, turning us all into walking ID cards. With your support we can: 🔸Take groundbreaking legal action against police and shops' use of facial recognition 🔸Demand politicians roll back live facial recognition 🔸Give legal advice & support to people affected by live facial recognition 🔸Work with groups around the world fighting live facial recognition surveillance Support our legal action - DONATE to our crowdfunder today ⤵️ crowdfunder.co.uk/p/stop-fac…

“She hasn’t lost a battle, she wasn’t in a fight and she certainly wouldn’t want you to see her death as tragic. She was simply living.” And what amazing living it was. Big love & respect to Kris, her family & all who knew & loved her - particularly the team @CoppaFeelPeople ❤️
We share the sad news that our founder, boob chief, colleague, friend and queen of glittering turds, Kris, has died. Kris approached life in a creative, fun and fearless way, showing us that it is possible to live life to the full with cancer. Statement at coppafeel.org

PIP is not an unemployment benefit. PIP is not an unemployment benefit. PIP is not an unemployment benefit.
“Well I completely reject that… they are just wrong” @Jeremy_Hunt responds to charity @SCOPE calling the government's welfare reforms an assault on disabled people, arguing one of the best ways to address mental illness is “to help them get back into the world of work” #Peston

Some facts about #PIP 1. It is NOT an out-of-work benefit 2. The assessment & application process is hard. It is not "easy to claim" 3. Only 40-45% of claims are successful 4. Getting the correct reward is difficult. Challenging it can take months.

Looked like a busy shift in the crisis team today, but it turns out you can get through it all much quicker if you just tell people that the government says mental health has "gone too far" & that they need to stop "over-medicalising the everyday challenges & worries of life"
