Baroness Benefits here is a millionaire on ~£144k a year, but taxpayers cover her rent, energy, water bills, internet everything! She even tried to pay for her holiday flights with public cash. Yet she wants to cut benefits for sick and disabled people living on £7k–£11k a year.
Welfare should be a safety net for those in genuine need. It is not meant to be a comfortable option for people who can work.

Helen Whatley MP spends every day bashing disabled people online and calling them scroungers.
She has claimed for almost £2,000,000 on expenses since 2015.
£300,000 of this are for her own travel and accommodation etc, yet she lives 50 miles from London.

My view: Whately shakes her head in disagreement, but why else would a party be so cruel to those in need if not because it sees poverty as a moral failure?
There is no evidence that people on unemployment support are frittering it away on “fags and booze”. It is a tired stereotype used to make cuts sound virtuous.
Benefits are already too low for many people to cover food, rent, heating and basic dignity, and as the cost-of-living crisis deepens, those cuts will mean even more hardship.
Is this really the country we want to be: one that
responds to people in need by making them suffer even more?

Universal Credit doesn't know the price of a milk. Or heating. Or the bus.
It doesn't cover the essentials, leaving millions with no option but to turn to a food bank.
