Please would any Fellows of the Royal Historical Society consider voting for me in the elections for Council. I see I am the only non-academic among the 9 candidates & Council is currently entirely academics. We need representation of other approaches and uses of history.

9:15 and I'm about to start listening to my third Beethoven symphony of the morning, to celebrate his 250th birthday. And the 245th birthday of Jane Austen. Both are key characters in my Time Traveller's Guide to Regency Britain.

Thanks. I found it hugely thought-provoking, contrasting medieval rich and poor (free and unfree) with the rich and poor of the Industrial Revolution. I'd recommend every medievalist study the early 19th century, for a different perspective on inequality.

Great fun recording this with @IanJamesFM. If you’re going to spend time getting to know any period in history, you’ll struggle to find a better one than Regency Britain.

I've just received a note from my school history master, Euan Clarke, about my new Time Traveller's Guide. Even now, after more than 35 years, his handwriting makes me think of school reports - which weren't always good. Thankfully, this note said 'A++ in every respect'.

When I heard the phrase 'I'm going to Bedfordshire' in Bridget Jones's Diary, I thought it was an original, modern quip. But this afternoon I read 'and then went for Bedfordshire alias to bed' in the Rev'd James Woodforde's diary, for New Year's Eve 1786.
