Please would any Fellows of the Royal Historical Society consider voting for me in the elections for Council. I see I am the only non-academic among the 9 candidates & Council is currently entirely academics. We need representation of other approaches and uses of history.
New suite of covers for the Time Travellers Guides series unveiled! On kindle editions now - will be the new covers for the paperbacks from Autumn 2021.
This is fascinating - 9-14% medieval English men and women likely to have suffered from cancer at the time of death. Far more than previously thought. Pity the time frame is not more specific (but one can't have everything). thetimes.co.uk/article/bone-…

Shocking. When I criticise Jonathan Sumption as a historian, it's often because he doesn't seem to like, or empathise with, the people he writes about. He sits in arrogant judement on them all. He also appears to apply the same lack of empathy to living people.
Deborah(stage 4 bowel cancer) Lord Sumption, I'm the person that you say whose life is not valuable.
Lord Sumption - “I didn't say it wasn't valuable, I said it was less valuable” 😯

9:15 and I'm about to start listening to my third Beethoven symphony of the morning, to celebrate his 250th birthday. And the 245th birthday of Jane Austen. Both are key characters in my Time Traveller's Guide to Regency Britain.

Thanks. I found it hugely thought-provoking, contrasting medieval rich and poor (free and unfree) with the rich and poor of the Industrial Revolution. I'd recommend every medievalist study the early 19th century, for a different perspective on inequality.
