There are a lot of really smart, eminent people at the Franklin, but as PhD students we always feel like we can ask questions and seek advice.” Nadisha Gamage - 2021/2022 Franklin PhD Cohort

Wonderful to see our paper out in @Nature today! What happens if we experimentally challenge young healthy seronegative adult volunteers with SARS-CoV-2 and apply single cell multi-omics? Not everyone subsequently gets COVID-19! nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

#DYK not all leeches feed on blood 🩸? Many are predators of invertebrates and some specialize on hunting earthworms🪱
After all, other worms are a perfectly shaped meal for them 🍝
I think this is a species of Orobdella, a group of primarily Japanese leeches that feed on worms

This #WorldMosquitoDay, watch this by Dr. Sachie Kanatani from the @PhotiniSinnis17 Lab. It is terrifying and extraordinary at once. 5th-place winner in the 2021 #NikonSmallWorldInMotion competition. bit.ly/3OBiWor Photo: Dr. Sachie Kanatani & Dr. Photini Sinnis
This #WorldMosquitoDay, take a look at this mosquito spitting out malaria parasites 🔬
It's carrying sporozoites, the infective stage of #malaria. If you got bitten, you could be infected.

Ever heard about crazy hairworms that infect insects and make them jump into water so the worm can get out and find mates?
Well, we sequenced the first genomes of this entire phylum of animals, and learned that they are even weirder than we thought!

Using a Cas9/guide-RNA-based gene drive system, researchers have produced mosquitoes that produce antimalaria antibodies. If released, models suggest the mosquitoes could reduce malaria incidence by roughly 90% within three months. In PNAS: ow.ly/TQLq50P9rGG
