There are a good number of privately owned cars that seem to have illegally tinted windows and are parking in a secure facility reserved for NYPD officers. Also, this was a #bikenyc lane. @StreetsblogNYC @placardabuse

Have you ever read a really interesting thread by someone then at the end they say something which makes you question it all?
Exactly. And people keep telling us sea levels are rising, which seems like a good thing for desalination.

1️⃣5️⃣ The rest of the decline is likely not due to sewage. Only 36% of pollution is down to overflows says Owfat. The largest polluter at 40% is Nitrogen and Phosphorous from farming run off. Which is why the Gov introduced Farming Rules for Water in 2018.

The EU executive is set to adopt a proposal to fight malfeasance across the bloc by beefing up anti-corruption bodies, harmonizing definitions and penalties and facilitating cross-border investigations. Brussels Playbook has more: politi.co/44hMOvM

Back to this chunky battery. It was made by a company called AGM, based in, of all places, Thurso, the northernmost town in mainland Britain. And here's the thing, it was mass produced in the early 1990s, around the same time as those first Sony cells

🔋Here's a story about a battery.🔋 It may not look like much. Looks a lot like, well, a battery. But this is no normal battery. It's a little bit of history.

A driver with 63 moving violations struck and killed a pedestrian this past Friday. The driver's car should've been impounded and crushed into a cube months ago, instead the NYPD allowed this recidivist criminal to leave the scene without any charges. howsmydrivingny.nyc/rt5yrjbf

People believe Ukrainians will return to their homes, but Sudanese are less likely? That Ukrainian refugees are overwhelming women? That standing up to Russia is in the interests of the west, in a way that Sudanese politics isn’t? Lots of possible reasons.
We’re going to have to ask ourselves- What really is the difference between Sudanese people & Ukrainian people, which means Ukrainians have free entry to Europe & a visa pathway to the UK, and Sudanese are kept out with brutal force?

Do you mean critical mass?
Walking home just now, I’m nearly knocked over by dozens of cyclists (on the Friday night mass cycle in London) blithely and aggressively ignoring & driving through the red lights….

But degrowth would mean we have less to redistribute.
Replying to @degrowthlondon
“[Degrowth] requires radical redistribution, reduction in the material size of the global economy, and a shift in common values towards care, solidarity and autonomy. 4/

On the plus side it means in 50 years we could be as rich as the USA if we chose wisely.
The IMF expects South Korea to pass the UK in terms of Real GDP per capita this year—it's an amazing success story for a nation that, as recently as 1985, had less than 1/3 of Great Britain's per-person economic output.

THREAD: The Benefits of EU Membership Let's remind ourselves of some of the things Brexit took from us when we left the EU. (Not an exhaustive list.) 1. No barriers to trade with the world's largest trading bloc. (Bristol, Berlin, Barcelona all equally accessible.)

Transmission losses are a lot less important if the fuel is free.
Hands up who thinks this is a good idea? UK Gvmnt plans a 2,640 mile sub-sea power cable from Morocco and a new 10.5GW solar and wind farm to be built there. *power loss is roughly 3.5% per 620 miles so we'd lose 15% of energy we buy from there. Not gonna be cheaper bills!

Probably some of the same people.
The two Walthamstows 11am: housing rights union marches past, boisterously protesting for tenants’ rights after local resident was evicted following 50% rent hike 👍 2pm: neighbourhood WhatsApp group is drumming up opposition to a 40-unit apartment block on a brownfield site 🙃
