Look at this-my work has come back into fashion! Of course, it never went out of fashion at all. Communication and language are central to everything we do in EY ! It’s almost like we know about child development @MichaelRosenYes !

You used to be able to buy a stamp at the post box! This large King George VI post box has a stamp vending machine attached, so you can't use not having a stamp as an excuse for posting that birthday card late! #letterboxstudygroup

schools giving increased attention to language sounds good but it comes with many risks - the most obvious being the further entrenchment of deficit thinking. me and @choudrey_s anticipate this and how to resist it in our linguistic justice oracy framework doi.org/10.1080/00131911.202…
“With AI on the rise, we need to go harder on the skills that makes us human, like oracy. That ability to articulate yourself confidently is central to success in work and life, but for too long it’s been a marker of privilege. Now it will become the right of every child.” Read more 👇 thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

I’m delighted to see people objecting to the idea of assessing and/or examining oracy. However, some of those people have no objection to examining reading and writing.

The Penfold Postbox is an icon of our streets - so much so that replicas were made from the 1980s right through to the 2010s and put on our streets. This attractive green example bears a plaque commemorating its 2016 unveiling 10 years ago. #PostboxSaturday

All the Feelings in the Room by Diego Estebo is a brilliant book for introducing EYFS children to the language of feelings. The story takes place at Alma's party, when everyone who arrives is feeling different: excited, shy, proud, angry. It's perfect for developing empathy.

Key Stage 4 should be a 2 year, not a 3 year experience. We risk turning schools into exam factories. Of course exams are important but at the right time. KS3 should be about experiencing a broad curriculum & enjoying school.
Key stage 3 is ‘too often treated as a dumping ground for early GCSE preparation’, according to a new research report based on a survey of teachers – most of whom want change to this phase of schooling tes.com/magazine/news/genera…

In celebration of our 9th birthday on 26th October, please can everyone write to Alistair Cochrane, CEO of Royal Mail, to tell him what letter writing means to you. The reasons I hear are so moving, I want him to know too. It’s FREEPOST, PO Box 76085, EC1P 1HA. Huge thanks! 🥳💌

I was walking to the building where I work in Oxford when I passed three young girls speaking Farsi and I couldn’t help but run back and ask if they were from Afghanistan. They said yes. It had been a few months since their arrival as refugees waiting in Pakistan, now studying at a local school in Oxford. I was swelling with emotion. These girls just escaped 5 years of gender persecution under the Taliban. Erasure of their schools. And are now in Oxford, studying freely. Thank you to the U.K government for giving them a second chance. As a former refugee myself, we all just need one chance, as Canada gave to my mother and I. Two sets of Afghan women, escaping two Taliban regimes, meeting in Oxford. All in the hopes of finding freedom through education.

They seem such a small part of the landscape, but they have such a big impact in keeping us connected with letters we post in them and the posties that go to every house in the country delivering them. A humble but mighty sign of the power of a postal service. #PostboxSaturday 📮

What's that on top of this Edward VII post box in London? A Post Office direction sign, often abbreviated to PODS, was once a common sight on our streets. Now, only a small number (like this one) survive. Have you seen one on a street near you? #postboxsaturday

Spotted in London: a VR postbox. No, not Virtual Reality. Victoria Regina. Queen Victoria, to you and me. Over 120 years old and still delivering. No software updates, no passwords, no AI, and absolutely no need to accept cookies. #postboxSaturday 📮💌 #writemoreletters – at Essendine, England
