Heartbreaking scenes from France. This is a nation descending into barbarism and savagery.

The Nazis thought of destroying this historic city hall. And decided against it. These bastards have just done it.

So a lot to unpack here, but definitely the wildest medical thing I’ve seen. It was, as you can imagine, an extremely distressing time and I was being both son and doctor just desperately trying their best. A big thank you to Tim and the BBC bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cmy0…

Public transport at the weekend in London is the absolute pits. And when you do get out of the tube you get over by a bike 👌

If you were young in 2001, or weren’t even born yet, it can be hard to imagine what 9/11 felt like. The shock of that beautiful, cloudless morning. The heartbreak of the families whose loved ones were taken with such swiftness and cruelty. The realization that the forces of malevolence and violence were closer, and the future less certain, than we knew. But in the days that followed, we felt something else, too. Pride in the rescue workers who had rushed to the scene, and the passengers who had stormed the cockpit. Admiration for the men and women who left behind lives of comfort to serve their country. A deep resolve that nothing would break the will of a truly United States of America. Today Michelle and I are remembering those we lost that day, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the wars that followed. We pray for their families. And we hope Americans everywhere remember the true lesson of 9/11: that we can survive even our darkest days as long as we move forward as one nation and one people.

I was sent to cover 9/11 for Radio Five Live Many many traumatised people in the depths of despair continually stopped me in Manhattan holding pictures of their loved ones to ask, ‘have you seen my father’; ‘have you seen my sister?’ Everywhere you looked - walls, doors, hoardings, windows were covered with images of people like you and me with the word ‘MISSING’ across the top. It was deeply harrowing. I also met Todd Beamer’s widow Lisa. Todd was on United Airlines Flight 93. He was on a call out to the ground and was told that two planes had crashed into the World Trade Centre & that hijackers had taken over his flight.  He, along with other passengers & some crew, decided to try and get control of their aircraft. According to those listening on the ground, they heard Todd say to his fellow passengers, ‘Let’s roll’. The plane crashed short of its target - Washington DC.  Lisa Beamer was extraordinary. She was 5 months pregnant, and her two little boys were running around the house. She welcomed me into her home because she already knew her husband was an utterly courageous human being - and she wanted to tell the world ❤️ I will never ever forget her
🕊 The missing Twin Towers returned to New York for a few minutes A light show was held on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The drones first rose into the night sky in a spiral, then formed the outlines of the destroyed World Trade Center towers. The installation used 2,977 drones — one for each person killed in the attacks.

Very sad news for culture in Scotland. A fine publication, hopefully something will emerge from it's embers.

What a loss. @theskinnymag was such a force in independent Scottish journalism and a vital ally of the arts scene. They will be sorely missed.

such a devastating loss for scottish journalism. my career started through their young critics scheme 8 years ago, and it was a joy to work with an excellent team that created a vital space for scotland’s culture scene.
