Poolbeg Pharma’s Principal Scientist, Liam Tremble, recently spoke with Bob Munro about Bob’s participation in the @CureLeukaemia fundraising challenge. 🪣What began as a bucket list idea back in 2012 after being diagnosed with an incurable cancer, Bob was inspired by the Tour de France. Bob started with the Myeloma UK London-Paris bike ride, raising over £350,000 for myeloma research. 🚲 ⛰️ Bob has now signed up to participate in The Tour 21 with Cure Leukaemia, where 20–25 amateur cyclists ride every stage of the Tour de France route, 2,100 miles 💰The team’s goal is to raise £1 million, with all funds going directly into blood cancer clinical trials. Bob highlights the vital role that clinical trials and research play in developing new treatments, highlighting the profound impact on patients. He highlights that the more this process can be accelerated, the sooner life-saving drugs can reach the people who urgently need them. If you would like to learn more or donate towards Bob’s mission to conquer the mountains in aid of cancer research, head to the link below: justgiving.com/page/munro-td… #POLB #Leukaemia #CureLeukaemia #Fundraising #Cancer #TourDeFrance #France #Cycling

Our Principal Scientist Liam Tremble joined @TheChristieNHS for a meet & greet with @CureLeukaemia and the clinical trials unit. The session included: ✅ A presentation from Emma Searle on the team’s work, including the POLB 001 TOPICAL trial ✅ Insight into how vital Cure Leukaemia funding supports blood cancer clinical trials across the UK ✅ The critical role clinicians play embedding new therapies and ensuring all patients can access them These trials play a critical role in advancing treatment, ensuring more patients can access cutting-edge therapies. This is especially important for cancer patients in the UK who have exhausted existing treatment options, offering renewed hope where standard care may no longer be effective. Tour 21 is an extraordinary challenge, with a team of amateur cyclists and cancer patients taking on the full Tour de France route, over 3,500km in just 21 days and only one week ahead of the professionals, all to raise £1M+ for Cure Leukaemia. On Saturday, The Tour 21 Alumni and The Route Alumna came together for a ride-out from St George's Park followed by an evening to celebrate their incredible achievements, and marking 20 years since our Patron Geoff Thomas completed his first tour! We are delighted to share that collectively, the Tour 21 and The Route have raised over £10million, supporting blood cancer patients globally. On the night, our brilliant host Ned Boutling spoke with former riders about their experiences on the bike and ongoing support for Cure Leukaemia. We heard from those affected by blood cancer on what these events mean to them, before Professor Charlie Craddock and Dr Katharine Patrick explained how the money raised enables them and clinical colleagues to deliver world first clinical trials to help bring us closer to a cure. If you want to take on the challenge of a lifetime and be part of a team that is making a huge difference to patients worldwide visit The Tour 21 and The Route websites and sign up today.

Roy Loewenberg did the impossible: he conquered @LeTour 🇫🇷 But just before reaching the finish line in Paris, he was on the brink of breaking down. “I told myself: ‘I beat Leukemia, so it’s okay if the Tour de France beats me’,” he says. As evening fell on Sunday, Loewenberg captured the victory photo he had dreamed of ever since he set out on the impossible mission of his life: to complete the full Tour route, exactly one year after Leukemia nearly took his life. With his children beside him, he raised the bike he had ridden for 3,338 kilometers across France — through climbs and descents, in heavy rain and blistering heat. But only he knows how close he came to not making it. As unbelievable as that may sound to those who know him — “The Lion from Tel Aviv,” as he was nicknamed by members of the @thetour21 team who took on the challenge to raise funds for @CureLeukaemia — his breaking point came just before Paris. It was stage 20, from Nantua to Pontarlier, the day before the sweet finale awaited him at the finish line in the French capital. His body was shutting down. Torrential rain and freezing cold hit him. “I was descending and couldn’t feel my hands,” he says. “I looked at them — they felt like foreign objects. I couldn’t brake, let alone shift gears. Everything was frozen. I was finished. Destroyed. Exhausted. I told myself it wouldn’t be so bad to quit now, not to make it to Paris.” This story, which began when Leukemia struck a 46-year-old hi-tech professional and amateur cyclist, continued with a bone marrow transplant that saved his life, and led him — still thin and fragile — to the IPT training camp as a special guest, ends with a nearly unbelievable happy ending. “To be honest? Even I didn’t think I had a chance,” Loewenberg admits. “When I decided to take this on, I gave myself maybe a 10% chance. But everything changed when Israel – Premier Tech decided to help me. “During this journey I learned that anything is possible. It’s not a cliché. I learned that the spirit, the mind, has a strength the body doesn’t.” 🇫🇷 #TDF2025 #YallaIPT #FactorRacing

40 years ago my Mom noticed my gums were swollen - only to find out it was Leukaemia and I had 2 weeks to live. Never in my wildest dreams did I think one day I would ride the entire Tour de France route for the very cause that nearly killed me and ended up taking my Dad. Most importantly we are one step closer to curing this horrible disease which has taken too many. Yesterday we made it to Paris, completing all 21 Stages of the 2025 Tour de France one week ahead of the pros and raised $981,565 as of this morning for Cure Leukaemia… Thank you for all your support!
