Serato DJ is on iPhone and iPad for the first time, on the same engine as DJ Pro. Free to start, $149 to unlock the full app (Serato). #MusicTech #DJ #Serato #iOS
Our take: the real hook is continuity. iOS Transfer moves your laptop crates over with cue points, beatgrids and metadata intact (needs DJ Pro or Lite 5.0+). Your prep finally travels without the laptop.
Serato is late to phones and knows it. A-Trak at launch: "There are other iOS apps for DJing, but they aren't Serato. They aren't the official app." the-drop.serato.com/announce…
Reinier Zonneveld raised about $1M for GasLab, a GenAI app trained only on opted-in music that says it pays the artists each output draws from (Music Ally). Right idea, but the attribution math can't be checked yet; the app isn't open. #MusicTech #AImusic #GasLab #MusicBusiness
UMG, Capitol and Sony asked a judge to force DistroKid to hand over data from the AI model it uses to screen uploads, for their Suno case. No ruling yet. #MusicTech #AImusic #Suno #MusicBusiness
They also want the model's name and vendor, when DistroKid started using it, and its accuracy and false-positive analysis. The labels say DistroKid delivered nearly 12 million tracks to one unnamed service from March to September — all tracks, not AI tracks (MBW).
Our take: AI detectors are becoming courtroom evidence, and nobody outside has seen their error rates. DistroKid told Billboard it is cooperating with the legal process. musicbusinessworldwide.com/u…
"The Adult I Dreamed Of" by Meomuru, with vocals made in Suno, hit No. 3 on Melon's Top 100 in South Korea this week, per the Korea Herald. Meomuru wrote the lyrics and directed it. #MusicTech #AImusic #Suno #KPop
The rules haven't caught up. Korea's music copyright society, KOMCA, introduced rules in August to register AI-assisted works where a human played "a substantive and leading role," then withdrew them 22 days later (Korea Herald).
Our take: the first big test of AI labels is a hit, and the label didn't slow it down. Listeners seem to care more about the song. koreaherald.com/article/1090…
UVI also launched the UVI Builder Platform, opening Falcon's engine to partner sound brands. UVI says the terms are "accessible pricing, quarterly payments, no upfront costs, and no encoding fees." Deep editing still needs paid Falcon.
Our take: a free way into Falcon's sounds, and a clear play for third-party library makers. rekkerd.org/uvi-launches-uvi…
UVI renamed its free UVI Workstation to UVI Player, and it now plays every Falcon Expansion without a Falcon license. The Player is free; Falcon and the expansions are still paid. #MusicTech #MusicProduction #UVI #VSTplugins
Taylor Swift's company filed to trademark a spoken clip of her voice in the UK, EU and Australia (MBW). That's one phrase, not her voice, and the tactic is untested in court. It says artists don't trust current law on AI clones. #MusicTech #AImusic #TaylorSwift #MusicBusiness
YouTube Music started labeling songs made primarily with generative AI, and its rules say Auto-Tune and AI mastering count as "No Gen AI." #MusicTech #AImusic #YouTubeMusic #MusicProduction
Per Music Business Worldwide, labels come from partner disclosures (Fully, Partly or No Gen AI) plus YouTube's own detection. If partners give no AI info, YouTube may designate tracks itself. Neither page says if labels affect recommendations or royalties.
Our take: drawing the line at generation, not tools, is the right call for producers. Now YouTube needs to say what a label means for reach and pay. musicbusinessworldwide.com/y…
