There are so many games I thought would be left behind on old hardware. Honestly, it has been nice to see these doses of nostalgia arrive on modern consoles.

I still think XBOX should do this.

Big thanks to Activision for the access to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. I’m hearing nothing but amazing things and I can’t wait to jump into the campaign.

I’m in the midst of making a home office now that I’m a home owner and have a dedicated office space. Desk, chair, keyboards, and pretty much everything else. So I absolutely welcome any recommendations for the above.

No spoilers, but Mako and Manu (the twins) are going to become fan favourites in Gears of War: E-Day. Much like Carmine has served in the past, they are a welcomed juxtaposition to their environment. They create a funny (and yet somehow grounded) foil to the chaos around them. Their relationship is one of the most interesting story threads throughout the campaign.

Gears of War: E-Day elevates and refines the beloved cover shooter gameplay while pairing it with stunning visuals and strong narrative beats. The open-world sections are condensed enough that it keeps the feel of a Gears of War game intact while providing discoverable story threads and elevating the setting of Kalona as a character itself. The desperation and destruction is felt and seen as the campaign rolls on, giving a new dimension to the ruthlessness and threat of the Locust Horde that hasn’t been felt since the original game. Returning favourites Marcus and Dom ride shotgun to newcomers Mags Carter and Lucas Reyes for a lot of the story which will disappoint some longtime fans enticed by a reunion of the original trilogy’s Delta Squad members. Meanwhile, mechanical pillars like Lancer battles, frag tagging and meat shields are missed (although the team at The Coalition has already clarified that they may revisit them in future updates). Still, this is the best Gears has been in a long, long time — and more than enough of a reason to return to the series or boot it up for the first time. Thanks to XBOX for the access.
