🚨 UPDATED Excited to announce that The Piraeus will be teaming up with Oyarsa to host our 1st ever in-person event Monday, October 19 at noon in Nashville (afternoon of the 4th Thiel lecture)! "Building on the Cultural Frontier" will be a lunch and panel discussion featuring leaders from our rapidly growing grassroots movement—citizen activists, independent scholars, and entrepreneurs working to revitalize Western culture and education outside of mainstream institutions. The panel will introduce you to these leaders and their projects, discuss their visions for the future, and show you how to get involved. Nick Gallo (@nickmgallo) will lead the discussion with the following panelists: FROM NASHVILLE: ➤ Davis Hunt (@vrgldh), founder of The Pamphleteer (@realpamphleteer ), "Nashville's Alt-Daily," that aims to combat corporate and progressive media domination, and, through its in-person events, connect Nashville's citizen activists. Davis will discuss his vision for building grassroots coalitions, facilitating local civic engagement, and inspiring citizen activists in other cities. ➤ Warren Steury(@NWSteury), founder of Meriwether Academy (@meriwetheracdmy), a Nashville-based men's group dedicated to reviving the ideal of the American man. Warren will discuss his vision for building men's civic organizations and boys' schools centered around classical and outdoor education. FROM OUT OF STATE: ➤ Michael Millerman (@millerman), founder of The Millerman School, an online school of political philosophy that teaches Strauss, Heidegger, Plato, and others, to discuss his vision of enriching political and philosophical discourse outside academia. ➤ Paul McNeil (@pbdmcniel), founder of The Wagon Box Inn (@thewagonbox) in Story, Wyoming, to discuss his vision of connecting online communities at real-world hubs, like the Wagon Box, which can serve as a model for similar projects across the country. ➤ Tyler Mathews (@tchevezmathews), founder of Oyarsa (@oyarsanetwork), a St. Louis-based men's group to discuss his vision of connecting grassroots cultural groups with local business owners and entrepreneurs, and how St. Louis can serve as a model for other cities. Light lunch will be served before the panel, which will be followed by a social hour to connect with others before the Thiel event. Paid subscribers to The Piraeus and members of Oyarsa get a 20% discount code. Look forward to seeing you all there!

Also, big thanks to @NickMGallo of @ThePiraeus for bringing me in to help organize the panel before the final lecture. It was a great turnout with standing room only. The quality of the people in the room was incredibly high.

Excellent series of events and lectures. @vrgldh and @NWSteury are killing it making Nashville a leader in the central time zone (Texas is its own thing). Gives me some friendly competition and motivation to get St. Louis up to speed. (Photos pulled from X.)
Thanks to everyone who came out to at least one of the four @peterthiel lectures, but a huge thank you to the people who attended all four. Despite all the obvious complaints, I'm excited about the future of Nashville. There is still much work to do, but pulling together over a thousand people to attend a series of dense talks on the biblical antichrist in the, until now, neglected and forgotten downtown Masonic Lodge indicates that there is an intellectual curiosity in the area that is easy to miss for the neon glow of Broadway. When we started @realpamphleteer five years ago, the goal was to reinvigorate discussions around local matters. Part of how we do this is approaching the largest questions facing mankind and reflecting them through the prism of local concerns. This is essentially what the Effective Altruists do. Every speed bump is a life saved. Minuscule policy decisions like property setbacks, right on red prohibitions, zoning laws, and education policy are imbued with a higher ideological valence. If we are to engage in local matters, we need to re-enchant them in our own, distinct way. Rome is a symbol now, but it was once a city with all the laws, codes, and protocols that entailed — obscure easements around a building's ability to access unobstructed sunlight, for example. The question of how to "reinvigorate" urban politics contra the Mamdani-DSA-EA-Omni Cause cargo cult is at its root a spiritual question. And how we elevate and advance these concerns above the increasingly boring and dysfunctional theatrics coming out of Washington DC is a question of how we orient ourselves in relation to the world. Nashville is uniquely positioned here with its deep, abiding Christian heritage and as the progenitor of the most widely appreciated, distinctly American cultural product in the country. Thank you also to @NWSteury and @meriwetheracdmy without whom, the event wouldn't have gone off as smoothly as it did.

Replying to @Philheur
This dynamism you speak of is definitely taking root in Nashville. Check out the work of @meriwetheracdmy, @ThePiraeus, @realpamphleteer and other interconnected groups who each retain an individual identity/purpose yet are working together toward a similar goal: strengthening the human spirit so it can aspire to noble pursuits. As you might know, Thiel's been speaking in Nashville for the past 4 weeks, but meanwhile there have been several adjacent events, like @JOEBOTxyz 's recent Antichrist lecture (which includes Steiner's ideas) and this event below involving like-minded partners in other states. These collaborations are ongoing, vibrant, and entirely encouraging.

43 registrations for tomorrow. Lots of great people will be in the room. Join us if you can!
Something big is happening in Nashville. And it didn't start four weeks ago. A thousand people have been to the Thiel lectures hosted by @realpamphleteer and @meriwetheracdmy. What's the story behind these two groups and the strong citizen activist community they've built in Nashville over the past few years? Join us next Monday at noon to find out. We will also learn what's going on beyond Nashville. We will be joined by three group leaders from out of state who will be discussing their cultural and educational projects. Tyler Mathews (@tchevezmathews), a co-host of the event and founder of @oyarsanetwork, a St. Louis-based men's group that hosts regular salons and aims to make the city a hub for cultural and intellectual life once again. Paul McNeil of Wyoming's Wagon Box Inn (@thewagonbox), part college campus, part mountain retreat, part tavern for philosophical discourse, and a premier destination for our cultural activists. Michael Millerman (@millerman) of the Millerman School, an online school of political philosophy based in Canada, that teaches Leo Strauss, Martin Heidegger, Plato, and other great thinkers. @ThePiraeus will be moderating the conversation. The Piraeus aims to tell an even broader story. It is not just Nashville. It is not just a handful of groups. A genuine grassroots movement—comprised of an ever growing number of loosely connected groups scattered across the country—is underway. What is the state of our movement? What is its future? What unique role might Nashville play in connecting our movement and helping to revitalize Western culture and education? Join us as we discuss these questions with ambitious group leaders, curious minds in town for the lecture, and regulars and newcomers to Nashville's local political scene. The main event will run from 12-2pm at the Glasshaus, a cafe, glassblowing studio, lounge, and art gallery. You are welcome to come before or after to mingle in the cafe up front. Hope to see you all there! Register here: luma.com/qwyszdp1

In the DC area next week? C'mon down to Butterworth's! TECH HALLUCINATIONS — AI Psychosis is the New Acid Casualty Tuesday, Oct. 27 | Butterworth's Doors at 6pm. My talk starts 7pm. Psychedelic drugs were a heady inspiration for tech culture. Over the years, we learned Steve Jobs was dropping acid. We heard Timothy Leary riffing on the internet. We had Terrence McKenna tapping the hallucinatory space for visions of our coming transhuman future. Today, artificial intelligence is a total head trip. Early AI-generated images resemble the dream-like scenes any psychedelic user would be familiar with. As more and more people begin to converse with chatbots in intimate ways—sometimes losing the distinction between digital outputs and their own thoughts—it's clear that AI psychosis is the new acid casualty. Join us for a sobering romp through the psychedelic origins of digital technology.
