Well, Renoir noted of himself that he painted with part of his anatomy which is not generally used for such purposes...

Emotional moment two women blinded under Islamic regimes meeting each other for the first time. Fahimeh is from Afghanistan. Her husband threw acid on her face because she was fighting for women's rights against the Taliban. As her face burned, he told her: now I have taken your eyes and your face, people will be scared of you, so I dare you to go out and talk to people. I invited her to come on stage with me and talk directly to thousands of people in Poland. She met Kosar, an Iranian woman who was blinded by the Islamic Republic during the Woman life Freedom uprising. We are now together stepping into Jewish history in Poland, including Auschwitz, and understanding the connection between the Holocaust and the Islamic Republic’s massacre on 2026. If any of you think it’s easy to live under Islamic republic or Taliban just listened to their stories. These women are not fighting for themselves. They are fighting to protect democracy everywhere from the most dangerous cancer, which is called Islamism.

Trump is so angry that Ukrainians won’t surrender and die quietly so he and his friends can make money with Putin.

Did you see this? @britishmuseum received a £30 million donation from a longtime patron for its renovation of among several things the West Wing galleries, which is designed by architect Lina Ghotmeh.

Prawn soufflé scattered with neon Little Gem lettuce, followed by pink blancmange... Can't think who does like any Renoir - apart from the early ones.
Somehow I'm not sure that quite works - visually at least. Perhaps it's because I'm not a great Renoir fan

Eeeek....
Living in Ireland, and commuting to the UK, means I've only just caught up with picky bits and cozzy livs. Statey funes I regret to say passed me by entirely.

The outsize name board in early 19th-century slab-serif or "Egyptian" lettering distinguishes the coaching inn built in Arundel High Street by the Duke of Norfolk in 1785. The room above the arch could hold 150 at dinner. Listed Grade II*.

I suppose it's a bit like those paintings which show different bits of the same story all at once (like a comic strip), and possibly there are other iterations of St Michael elsewhere in the church where he is older...?

A horrific Russian strike in the Kharkiv region. A “shahed” struck people directly – in a park near an ordinary café. Pure atrocity. Six people were killed, including children. A little girl was killed in a stroller – her name was Angelina, she was just over a year old, born in August 2025… Her mother’s name was Inna. She died in the hospital… Another girl who was killed was 11 years old. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Another 14 people were injured, including six more children. I am grateful to everyone who supports Ukraine under these circumstances and helps us shoot down “shaheds,” shoot down missiles, and stop Russian assaults. These are horrific photos, but behind them are shattered lives and the truth about this war. Lives must be protected. Ukraine needs air defense. You can't think about making money with Russia as long as it continues its asinine war. We ask that sanctions on Russia stay in place as long as the killings continue. We ask America to be strong, and we ask it to apply the Lindsey Graham law. We ask Europe to continue its support. We ask that everything possible be done to bring peace and guarantee security. Ukraine wants peace. It is Russia that has insisted on continuing the killing all this time. The world has enough strength to stop the war. That strength must finally be used – against the murderers.

Even more than usually disgusting.
Trump says that Russia “frankly, has been fine on Ukraine. They haven't been doing much." Notably, a Russian strike on a park in Ukraine's Kharkiv Oblast today killed six people, including three children.

For #MosaicMonday, this framed #Nilotic scene is actually a surviving fragment of the famous Asàrotos òikos (Unswept Floor) from the #Aventine. It formed the high-art centrepiece of the dining room, admired by guests looking past the trompe-l'œil food debris at their feet. – at Vatican City

But how do you know it's Michael, as this is presumably pre-hurling Satan from Heaven...? I am very intrigued by the whole question; how can he have his attributes if they haven't yet happened?

When there are so many relics and bits and bobs of saints knocking about, you're bound to trip over different eras of them, as it were 🙂 (Very good book, by the way)
