It would be funny if it weren't so tragic. Back when Fred Rwigyema and his brothers-in-arms created the RPF, dreaming of a new Rwanda, did they ever imagine Kagame - the skinny guy no one liked or trusted - wd end up president for life, claiming to win 99.15 pct of the vote?
BREAKING Partial results from Rwanda's presidential elections show Paul Kagame leading with 99.15% of the vote. Opposition candidates Frank Habineza and Philippe Mpayimana have received 0.53% and 0.32% respectively. #RBAnews #Amatora2024

"Rwanda has no interest in creating conflict with our neighbours". Astonishing statement as Rwanda has been in conflict, at one time or another, with all of its four neighbours since 1994. Resumption of precolonial practices, when Rwanda was an aggressive state.

This is the part of the Rwanda asylum story no Conservative MP is ever interested in discussing: what Rwanda is doing in eastern Congo, where its puppet rebel group has created a massive humanitarian crisis. Human Rights Watch's latest report on the M23: hrw.org/news/2023/06/13/dr-c…

Researchers estimate that if the top 1% of Americans paid the full amount of taxes they owed, it would raise $175 billion a year. That’s just UNPAID taxes. Not new or higher taxes. How about we make them pay their fair share and use the money to invest in the American people?

Freedom House lists Rwanda as one of the six worst practitioners of transnational repression in its yearly report, just out. It's the only African state in that group. Stunning that James Cleverly has just deemed Rwanda a safe place and worthy partner. freedomhouse.org/report/tran…

Inflation rose 14% between July 2020 and July 2022. But corporate profits rose by 75% over those two years — five times as fast as inflation. Don’t tell me corporations have no choice but to raise prices.

The sinking foreign aid and currency depreciation are hitting Kagame’s Singapore of Africa mightily. Between 2019 and 2023, US aid to Rwanda shrunk by nearly 50%. This has dire consequences for Rwanda’s basic health &HIV/AIDS whose US support fell by 50%. medium.com/@david.himbara_27…

We don’t have to choose between defending Israel and aiding Palestinian civilians. We can and must do both.
“Any member of Congress who cares about Israel’s enduring security — or America’s, for that matter — should support both defense and humanitarian assistance to address this conflict,” @SecBlinken writes in a guest opinion. Read his op-ed here: wapo.st/3SmPvsh

The upward redistribution of wealth over the past 40 years has shifted $50 trillion from the bottom 90% to the top 1%. That’s $50 trillion that would have gone into the paychecks of working Americans. The greatest trick of all is trickle-down economics.

This unfortunately happens too often in #Rwanda. Great things are announced with fanfare but don't happen. They then quietly disappear from the radar. @ChroniclesRW.

Over the past year, the 400 richest Americans increased their fortunes by $500B. They now own $4.5T in wealth. Meanwhile, a majority of Americans can’t afford a $1,000 emergency expense. This is unsustainable for our economy and democracy.
