The explosive evidence that Washington and the United Nations buried which implicates Paul Kagame and his senior RPF commanders in systematic war crimes before, during & after the Rwandan genocide. My investigation with @benmoran in @mailandguardian . mg.co.za/africa/2020-11-29-e…

What kind of people cut off a man's head and carry it away? Only sick people, Murders who need proof that he is truly dead, who want to hold it, show it, and report back that the job is done. To them It's a trophy taken for whoever ordered the killing.
I have seen the video of Sergeant Major Robert Kabera's body being brought to @MulagoReferral Hospital by @PoliceUg, straight from where it was found. I won't post it. It is too graphic, and his family deserves to grieve without seeing it spread across social media. But I can tell you what it shows: his body, without his head. The head has still not been found.
Look at who Robert was. He was a former Rwandan soldier who deserted, went into exile and spent years criticising Kagame openly. Rwandan propagandist media branded him a rebel trainer. In 2021, his local leaders begged @UNHCRuganda to protect him because, in their words, his country was still looking for him. In 2023, three men attacked him in Kampala and told him: "Even if you run to America, we will find you and kill you." One week before his death, a pro-government influencer @MadederiOG publicly named him on a list of critics Uganda should deal with.
Put that together with Seth Sendashonga, Charles Ingabire, Patrick Karegeya and Révocat Karemangingo. @PaulKagame's regime has a motive, a history and a method, and Robert's killing fits all three. Everything points to Kigali.
Ugandan government owes his family a real investigation, and @Refugees & the world owes Robert the refusal to look away.

D'abord, le contexte.
A cause de sa richesse minière et son densité démographique, l'est du Congo est un vaste marché que ses voisins convoitent--se transformant en "gatekeepers" pour les minerais exportées et des marchandises pour l'importation.

In September 2021, Sergeant Major Robert Kabera sat down and wrote a letter asking for protection. Rwandan media and YouTube channels were accusing him of training rebels in Uganda - which was not true, and he knew what that kind of accusation means for a Rwandan exile. He told his local council in Kampala that he was not safe.
Three days later, the LC1 chairman wrote back on his behalf. The village could not protect him, he said, because his country was still looking for him. He urgently asked @Refugees to step in.
That was five years ago. Now Robert was found dead in Kamengo, his body mutilated. So we are asking @Refugees and @UNHCRuganda directly: Did that letter ever reach you? Did anyone assess the threat against him? Was he ever considered for resettlement somewhere safer? And what happened to his case between 2021 and the morning his body was found?
He did everything a refugee is told to do. He reported the danger, he got it in writing, and he asked for help. We deserve to know what was done with it.

Twitter Pan-Africanists laud Paul Kagame and treat any critique as racism. Meanwhile, #Rwanda's backing of the M23 has fueled mass displacement, millions of death in eastern DRC. Does Pan-African solidarity not extend to these victims, or to Rwandans living under his repression?

Grateful to the @ResistBureau for the opportunity to speak following powerful testimonies from courageous voices defending democracy and human rights.
I highlighted the case of Rwandan opposition leader Victoire Ingabire and why international solidarity matters.
Sovereignty is not a licence to violate fundamental human rights. Calling demands for the release of political prisoners “foreign interference” does not erase a state's international human rights obligations.
Authoritarian regimes across borders use similar tactics to silence dissent. Our solidarity must also cross borders.

There are a very small number of countries that still carry out public executions. Those are the countries we are constantly told are uniquely primitive, barbaric, sick and evil.
It's revealing that Pete Hegseth wants the US to join that group but also entirely unsurprising.
Breaking news: The firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will be live-streamed, the Defense Department said.
“People need to understand that there’s serious consequences for these types of things,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said. wapo.st/4hNxK0C

There is something striking about this image.
Victoire Ingabire, in prison clothes, surrounded by armed guards — yet smiling, both thumbs up.
For many Rwandans, an image like this carries emotions that statistics and political statements cannot capture: courage, resilience, sacrifice, but also a profound longing for a country where political differences can be expressed freely and peacefully.
She returned to Rwanda in 2010 knowing the risks, determined to pursue her political struggle peacefully. Sixteen years later, she is again in detention and before the courts.
Ultimately, this is bigger than one woman or one political movement.
Rwandans should be free to hear different ideas, debate them, support them or reject them — and make that choice themselves.

Israeli soldiers were transformed into willful executioners of a genocide through orders and indoctrination, as in other genocides. What's unique here is the self-recorded thrill of many of them while destroying civilian lives: didn't the "most moral army" know this is criminal?
